Arsenal's winter window reinforcement midfield locks in four candidates: short-term rental of Paris parallel goods The two old will return to the same destination

Arsenal manager Arteta has conceded his side will seek midfield reinforcements during the January transfer window. While Lokunga joined them in the summer, Ernenni's participation in the Africa Cup of Nations and the loan of Maitland Niles to Roma left the Gunners lacking enough depth at the heart of the pitch. Arteta's words meant a shift in Arsenal's transfer policy. Previously, due to Aubameyang's disciplinary problems and uncertainty about Lacazette's future, there was speculation that they would make the forward line a priority for the team. But now, these issues seem to be set aside for the time being. Arsenal could chase a midfielder, although there are signs that the more promising Smith Rowe could be loaned out after coming off the bench in recent Premier League games. So, who might be on the shortlist?

Wijnaldum

Paris Saint-Germain cut Dutch international Wijnaldum from Barcelona during the summer transfer window, but so far the deal has been completely unsuccessful. Wijnaldum is said to be hoping to return to the Premier League, where he has grown up with Newcastle and Liverpool, and Arsenal could be a reasonable option. While the Parisians may not want to sell, if Arsenal are willing to accept a loan deal, then it is certainly a viable solution for all parties.

Frank Casey

The Milan midfielder has been in very good form so far this season, with his contract expiring this summer. With little hope of a contract extension, the door to January's transfer has been opened. While numerous clubs, including Tottenham, are interested in the Ivorian star, Arsenal's current league rankings and good reputation give them the chance to sign the 25-year-old. However, his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations could be detrimental to the January deal.

Chamberlain

The characteristic midfielder, whose characteristics are not outstanding, appears to be on his way out of Liverpool and plans to return to the Emirates Stadium have been proposed. When the England international left the Gunners for Anfield in 2017, he was considered a very promising young attacker. He has never played to his potential due to a succession of injuries and now he finds himself a surplus midfielder. Eager to play more games in the first team, he can get chances at Arsenal where he can take his game to the next level and at the moment he still has room to improve.

Ramsey

Juventus have said Ramsey is a player who will leave Turin in January and it is only natural that he has been advised to return to Arsenal. Several Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in the Welsh international, including Burnley, Everton and Newcastle, all of which are his most likely destinations. While ties with Arsenal have weakened in recent weeks, the succession of Arteta and Allegri inevitably means the 31-year-old will be linked to the club that left in the summer of 2019.
