From $8900! VRgineers releases XTAL, a high-performance VR headset

The XTAL 3 series, which is primarily aimed at corporate and military customers, ranges in price from $8,900 for the XTAL 3 Virtual Reality to $11,500 for the XTAL 3 Mixed Reality, and is expected to ship to pre-order customers in April this year.

It is understood that the XTAL series developed and sold by VRgineers is mainly used for applications that require a wide viewing angle, especially flight simulators. The company already has customers such as the U.S. Air Force, NASA and BAE Systems. Designed in collaboration with Air Force pilots, the XTAL 3 will feature VR and MR capabilities, both versions of the eyes with 8K resolution display, 4K refresh rate of 75Hz, FOV up to 180 degrees, eye tracking, inside and out tracking, and 60-76 mm automatic IPD adjustment range.

But the viewing angles of the two versions are slightly different, XTAL 3 Virtual Reality is horizontal 180 degrees and vertical 90 degrees. The horizontal viewing angle of the XTAL 3 Mixed Reality is slightly narrower, at 170 degrees. The XTAL 3 Virtual Reality weighs about 600g, and the weight of the XTAL 3 Mixed Reality plus the 4K camera module mounted on the front of the headset weighs about 700g.

It's worth mentioning that VRgineers isn't just working on the new XTAL 3. Last December, VR social platform Somnium Space released new details about the VR all-in-one it developed in collaboration with VRgineers. This consumer-grade VR headset is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of 2022.
