Musk: Tesla will raise the price of fully autonomous driving software

Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the company will raise the price of fully autonomous driving (FSD) from $10,000 to $12,000 on Jan. 17, but the decision only applies to customers in the United States.

Online with 69.2 million followers, Musk wrote, "The price of Tesla FSD rose to $12,000 on Jan. 17, only for the U.S. As we approach the release of the FSD production code, the FSD price will rise. ”

Musk also revealed that Tesla will also increase the monthly subscription price of FSD, which currently costs most users $199 per month.

"When the FSD is widely released, the monthly subscription price will go up." He said.

Tesla's standard driver assistance package, known as Autopilot, comes standard on all of its new cars (Model S, Model X, Model Y, and Model 3).

According to Tesla's website, auto-assisted driving features include, but are not limited to, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keeping, and adaptive cruise control, which essentially allow your car's speed to match the traffic environment around you.

Tesla's full autopilot option, also known as FSD, is a premium package that includes autopilot features, as well as more sophisticated features like auto-lane change, traffic light recognition, and more. Despite the name, cars are not allowed to drive themselves today without driver intervention.

Tesla also has a beta version of the FSD that includes more advanced features. Musk revealed in a tweet on Friday that an updated version of FSD Beta 10.9 is nearing completion.
