Jiang Hua | My father's first job was as a primary school teacher

(iii)

Shortly after liberation, when the regime was stable and the government was in order, my grandfather took my grandmother to the city. At that time, the cadres had no housing and lived in houses near the county office. My family rented a house surnamed Meng on Zhao Jia Street on the east side of the county court wall. The Meng family only had three people, two old ladies, and a twelve- or thirteen-year-old girl named An Lian. Her family had two houses, one they lived on the street and one on the inside that rented to me.

By this time my father had graduated and joined the workforce. His first job was as a teacher at Houting Elementary School. At that time, teachers and cadres had no salary and used food instead of money. The Jiang family is a big family, and the grandfather has two brothers, my uncle Guangkun and my father Jiang Tian; the second grandfather has uncle Guangping, the second uncle Guangjun, the third uncle Guanghua and TianGu, Yuan Gu, and Chen Gu; the third grandfather has uncle Guangyu, the second uncle Guangxing, the third uncle Guanghe, the fourth uncle Guanglai, jungu, and Chengu. Since childhood, my father did not know how to do farming, and only did some bookkeeping, delivery, and visiting relatives and friends, and consciously did not contribute to the family. When he brought home the two quintals of grain he had received and placed them in front of his whole family, his pride and joy overflowed.

My father did not last long in a teaching position. He recalled that several of his classmates had entered the supply and marketing cooperative, and several people had eaten together, and everyone advised him that there were five buckets of grain in the family, and that he should not be a child king, or do the supply and marketing cooperative. He was moved and begged his father to adjust his work. After the coordination of his grandfather, his father was transferred to the supply and marketing system as he wished, and in 1957 he was promoted to the head of the county supply and marketing social science and a member of the county social party branch. By this time the parents were married. My grandmother's family is Pengji Sanyizhuang, my grandfather Tian Shurong did business before liberation, ran Jinan, bought thirty or forty acres of land, and the family had foreign cars and phonographs, which belonged to a relatively wealthy family. My grandmother's family is a large family, and the yard has a flagpole. My grandparents had two daughters and a man, my aunt Tian Liu, my mother Tian Xixia, and my uncle Tian Xizhen. My grandfather died of illness on the eve of liberation. My mother often recalled many things in her childhood: at that time, my grandfather had nothing to like to listen to the phonograph, and as soon as the phonograph was put on, it would attract a courtyard of people, young and old, like watching Western scenery. My grandfather originally asked her mother to read privately, but she only read the Three Character Sutra and refused to go up to the hundred family names. My mother also recalled the past of Sanyizhuang stationed in the Eighth Route Army. Her mother was born in 1930, when she was fourteen years old, and a female soldier of the Eighth Route Army who lived in a neighboring house liked her very much, and often called her over to chat, told her stories about the army, and mobilized her to join the army and follow the troops. My grandmother was very feudal, and when she saw the hint, she quietly sent her to Siwen, which was her mother's grandmother's house. It wasn't until the troops were gone that they brought her back.

After my father entered the city, my mother also went to the city to reunite with my grandparents. The Meng family's house is a little small, and rented a house of the Kang family after the Meng family's house, which is equal to the front and back yards, the grandparents live in the backyard, the parents live in the front yard, and eat together in the backyard.

I was born in the fourth year after my parents got married. He has been pampered by his grandparents since childhood. My grandmother told me that if you want your grandfather to buy you something, unless the moon in the sky does not buy it, you will lie on the ground and cry and roll. According to my mother, my grandfather and father had planned to let her go to school as well, but they gave up because they gave birth to me. Four years later, he added his younger sister Yueqin, two years later he added his second sister Yueping, and three years later he added his younger brother Dongsheng. I was a full ten years older than my little brother.

Grandfather attaches great importance to the education of posterity, before the War of Resistance, he sent his uncle, father, Uncle Guangyu, and Uncle Guangping to the school, but his uncle did not persist, he had a personality, and he was particularly resistant to going to school. After liberation, Uncle Guangyu was arranged by his grandfather in the supply and marketing cooperative, and Uncle Guangping was arranged by his grandfather in the tax bureau. (To be continued)
