The origin of March Street is full of myths
Legend has it that a long time ago, a young Bai fisherman Ashan lived on the Erhai Sea. At night, he fished in the sea, played three strings, sang a big song, and the song spread to the Dragon Palace, and the dragon king's young daughter Ah Xiang heard the song, came to the boat, and later married Ah Shan. On March 15 of the following year, it was the day of the moon to rush the street, all the gods and immortals went to the Moon Palace to buy things, extremely lively, Ah Xiang turned into a small yellow dragon and drove Ah Shan to the street. They swam to the Guanghan Palace, met Wu Gang and Chang'e Immortals, and went to the big green tree to catch the streets in the moon.
The street is very lively, but everything is transparent and transparent, visible and untouchable.
So they just went to the moon and came back. After they returned to the village, they told the villagers about the street in the moon, and after consultation, they decided to move the street on the moon to the human world. Therefore, everyone planted three large green trees at the foot of Cangshan Mountain with seven hands and eight feet, and set up stalls around the big trees on the fifteenth day of the third month of the lunar calendar every year, selling what they had, buying what they lacked, and communicating with each other. So one passed ten, ten passed hundred, four townships and eight villages people came to rush the street, Dali March Street continued to this day every year.
The reason for the inheritance of each thing is that people follow history and continue these beautiful things from ancient times from the depths of their hearts.
The history of March Street
tang dynasty
During the Nanzhao period of the Tang Dynasty, the ancient city of Dali was not only the political, economic and cultural center of Yunnan, but also an important gateway for cultural exchanges and trade exchanges between Nanzhao and the ancient countries of Southeast Asia, and Buddhism had spread to Dali at this time.
According to legend, the Buddhist legend of Guanyin Bodhisattva was kind and kind, and subdued the demon Luocha who was entrenched in Dali, so in order to repay the merits of Guanyin Bodhisattva, every year on March 15th, everyone gathered together to sacrifice Guanyin Bodhisattva with vegetables, melons and fruits and other foods, so March Street is also called Guanyin City, Guanyin Street, and Guanyin Street.
The "Yunnan Tongzhi" written by Li Yuanyang, a Ming Dynasty scholar and Bai historian, has a record of March Street:
Guanyin Festival, March 15 at the foot of the Cangshan Mountains to trade goods from various provinces. Since the Tang Yonghui to the present, the dynasties have changed, the city has not changed, it is known that Guanyin entered Dali, and later generations burn incense on the day, smell the wind in all directions, and each comes with goods.
Ming dynasty
In the Ming Dynasty, in addition to the trade of various goods, March Street also had other activities such as horse racing.
Xu Xiake, a famous traveler of the Ming Dynasty, when he visited Dali in 1636, described the grand situation of March Street in the "Diary of Dianyou":
On the fifteenth day, it is the beginning of the street, and there is a gathering of Guanyin street in Gaiyu City (that is, Dali), which is set in the martial arts field in the west of the city... Thirteen provinces are all there... Yu Nai went from ximen to the west for a mile and a half, entered the martial arts field, and the tent was a city, and the rings were staggered. Yu Nai is still a mile and a half west of the West Gate, entering the martial arts field, and the tent is a city, and the ring is full of mistakes. To its north is the horse farm, where thousands of horses intersect, several gallops ride in the middle, and the team is high and low...
Qing Dynasty
In the Qing Dynasty, the scale of March Street was even larger, in addition to the participation of merchants in neighboring areas, there were also merchants from other provinces and even Southeast Asian countries to participate in the exhibition trade.
The Qing Dynasty's "Dali County Chronicle" records the grand situation of March Street in this way:
At its peak, the department store was quite large, and the four merchants Jia Rushu, Gan, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Guizhou, Qin, Qian, Tibet, Burma and other places, as well as the counties and prefectures of the province, gathered hundreds of thousands of people, and the value of horses and mules, medicinal materials, tea markets, silk wool, wood plants, porcelain, copper, and pewter was at least tens of thousands.

On June 7, 2008, Dali March Street was approved by the State Council to be included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
March Street, also known as the March Street Ethnic Festival, today's March Street is no longer just a market for trade and commerce, but has been given a deeper meaning: the current situation of folklore is concentrated.
During the March Street period, the ancient city of Dali was illuminated, and the residents of the ancient city placed flowers and trees in front of the door to set up a beautiful flower mountain.
The grand March Street is a grand event for material exchanges, including medicinal herbs, livestock, native products, daily necessities, etc., with a wide variety of items.
It is also the best time for national sports activities and cultural performance activities. Horse racing, archery, wrestling, shooting, martial arts, chess, ball games and large-scale ethnic performances, folk art performances, dragon and lion dances are all available.
Finally, it is a grand event for ethnic minority food tasting, in addition to the daily common food, Dali famous food raw snails, raw skin, a palm of snow, casserole fish, etc. can also be tasted in the festival.
Many people have a reason in their hearts that they must go to Dali, perhaps it is the beautiful romance of the wind and snow, perhaps the scenery of the blue water and the sky, of course, it may also be because of this interpretation of national culture.
