Real Madrid chased Haaland first but had to postpone it for a year before buying, and a big man in the team did not go nor the Norwegians did not come

When Haaland inevitably ended his adventure at Dortmund, many clubs seemed interested in signing him, but Real Madrid seemed to be in the lead. Of course, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea can easily pay sky-high transfer fees for the in-form striker, but it seems that Madrid is the mecca that the Norwegian international longs for. In fact, Borussia Dortmund CEO Vátsk also acknowledged this when talking about the future of his most valuable player. "What I do know is that Real Madrid are very interested in him," the Dortmund bigwig said. "I can now name 25 other teams, but I'm sure they mean. I think he would be more suitable in Spain. However, a notable factor remains ahead of Madrid fans starting to enthusiastically await Haaland's arrival in the summer, which could delay the striker's arrival until 2023.

According to German media, Borussia Dortmund are fully aware of Haaland's ambition to play for a bigger club one day, but the Bundesliga giants have not given up any hope of keeping the player next season, in fact their confidence is gradually increasing. That's more important than anything else, as Real Madrid are currently at the top of Haaland's signing squad, but they are reportedly more willing to sign Haaland in the summer of 2023 than at the end of the season.

There are obviously two reasons for this. First, Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe is expected to join the club in the summer, which is likely to cost the Bernabeu all of his time, attention and salary. The second more important reason is that Real Madrid still have a very good Number 9 player, Benzema, who currently scored 20 goals and assisted eight times for the club in 24 games this season. The Bernabeu side would rather wait until Benzema leaves the club in 2023, when his contract expires, rather than trying to squeeze three strikers into the same team. If so, they could happily welcome Haaland as the successor to the French striker.
