Back to where the dream began: Hello everyone! I am Wei Yili, a badminton coach!

If someone asks me: What is the most wonderful thing in the world? I think my answer must be time, and the power of time lies in its calm and powerful.

After the 2008 Beijing Olympics, I ended my career as an athlete. At that time, I didn't think about what I would do in the future, how I would do it, I only said one word to myself: a new life has begun. Fast forward 11 years, looking back on this period of time, the word "persistence" has always accompanied me to learn and grow.

Now, I have a new identity and let everyone know me again.

Hi everyone! I am Wei Yili, a badminton coach!

Back to where the dream began: Hello everyone! I am Wei Yili, a badminton coach!

Returned to Guoyu and coached Guoqing

After retiring from the army in 2008, after a long ideological struggle, I still chose to return to Hubei as a grassroots coach. Being a grassroots coach has a lot of exercise for me, I have to recruit team members by myself, lead team members to train and compete, the team members are young, and there are many things to pay attention to.

When athletes manage themselves, but to manage a large number of children, I deeply realize that the profession of coaching is not easy, and the birth of every champion contains the painstaking efforts and efforts of many people. Therefore, I respect this profession more and like it more. Trying to do my own training work every day and watching the team members improve and improve day by day is the happiest thing for me.

Today, I have been coaching in the women's doubles group of the National Youth Team for three years. I remember when I first started training, I felt that the pressure was really great, because the women's doubles was the traditional advantage of our Chinese badminton team, and as a women's doubles athlete of the previous generation, my sense of responsibility and mission was born. I also realized that my work was very difficult, there was no way back, only hard work, and I could not shrink back when I encountered great difficulties.

The National Youth Team is a very young team, the members are under the age of eighteen, and they are responsible for the Asian Youth Championship and the World Youth Championship. The national youth team is the most important place to reserve and cultivate reserve forces, and the training method is mainly based on intensive training, which is a period of three months, in addition to the competition, it can basically maintain two or three training periods in a year.

The youth team is characterized by the rapid update of the players, and new players are added in each period. Therefore, we must teach the team members in a short period of time from the ideological, cognitive, technical, physical, psychological and other aspects, laying the foundation is very critical.

To become a qualified and excellent badminton player, the comprehensive quality must be comprehensively improved. However, in the current environment, the living standards and conditions are getting better and better, how to make the team members in the boring and tedious training without fear of pain, not afraid of tiredness, is our most difficult problem to solve.

During these three years of intensive training, cultural classes, ideological education, and patriotic education courses are held almost every week, and what we want to pass on is sports culture, but also sportsmanship. A person's life, beliefs and goals are the most important things that sustain a person. An athlete must have the motherland in his heart, have a collective, and have the courage to win honor for the motherland. Raising the national flag and playing the national anthem is a mission and an honor.

Over the past three years, we have been to multiple training bases, and each base and every staff member has helped us a lot to make our training work. In the spring, summer, autumn and winter, everyone is doing the same thing, just so that the players can achieve the best results in the game.

Back to where the dream began: Hello everyone! I am Wei Yili, a badminton coach!

The new coach leads the team to the first realization

In 2019, I led the team to the three European races (Italy, Netherlands, Germany) for the first time, and after the whole competition was played, I found that our advantage was very small.

The importance attached to youth training in various countries is high and the competition is fierce. I found that the performance of our team members in the game is very unstable, the basic skills are not solid, the game experience is insufficient, and the ideological and psychological ups and downs are relatively large, which is a very key factor. In addition, the youth competition is concentrated in three days to complete, the part-time team members have to complete two rounds of competitions a day, the semi-final and final interval is only one hour, from morning to night is a frequent occurrence, the game gap is to find a place to sleep in the venue, the exercise of the team members is great.

To the European competition, the weather is cold, relatively better, but to Thailand, Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries to compete, the weather is hot, the consumption is large, and the ability problem will be exposed to the fullest. The heat of 37 degrees celsius continued, the players showed obvious discomfort, and cramps were very common during the game. In contrast, the foreign players are much better than us, which shows that our physical fitness level is still not enough.

Therefore, after the game, we paid more attention to basic physical fitness and continuous combat ability. In the training, we first strengthen the attention of the team members to the physical fitness, and then adjust the plan, more rationalize the training of large exercise, increase the tempering of basic techniques, and enrich the content of physical training.

The 2019 Asian Youth Championship was held in Suzhou and the World Youth Championship was held in Russia, and I was also the first time to take on such a heavy responsibility as a coach, and I felt both excitement and pressure. In the team competitions of these two competitions, the women's doubles in the key matches have problems, and they are all problems with psychological stress resistance. The girls were nervous, afraid that they would not be able to play at their normal level.

As a coach, I am responsible, lack of experience leads to a lack of comprehensive and meticulous consideration of the problem, which leads to problems for the players on the field. In the individual events, we corrected and adjusted in time, and won the final four in the Asian Youth Championship and the championship at the World Youth Championship. Although we played well in individual events, we did not play well in team competitions where collective honors were a matter of collective honor, reflecting the need for young athletes to learn to play their normal level under pressure.

After the game, the women's doubles team reflected and summarized for the first time, and the coaching team also paid more attention to strengthening anti-pressure training. In training, we constantly simulate the game situation, increase the number and method of simulated competition, emphasize the relationship between training and competition, attach importance to the quality of training, and improve the requirements in training.

In the past few years as a coach in the national team, I have gained a lot of exercise, learned a lot of new knowledge, accumulated more experience in leading the team, followed the old predecessors to learn how to manage the team, how to better communicate and communicate with the players, etc. In the construction of the echelon, more attention is paid to the connection of the age group, and the age structure of the team is constantly adjusted in order to find good seedlings in the fastest time.

The sudden outbreak of the epidemic has interrupted all the international youth competitions in the past two years, but our training has not been interrupted, and we are always ready for the competition. The string in our hearts did not dare to loosen, nor could we loosen, afraid that one day the game would resume, and we were not ready. Every year, the age of the team members is increasing, slowly moving towards maturity, and the changes are still great, which makes us feel happy and relieved.

2022 has arrived, a new year, the game is about to reopen, we will usher in a new challenge. We must actively understand the situation of the opponent, strengthen the ability to play, test the training results and accumulate experience through actual combat, and improve the confidence of the players by winning. Although there are many unknowns, great difficulties, and perhaps many problems, we cannot and will not be afraid, we must go head-on.

Looking forward to a new beginning, looking forward to more stories to share with you, and looking forward to more good results for the Chinese badminton team and The Chinese youth team in the new year.
