On January 7, Beijing time, the first quarterfinals of the 2022 WTA250 Melbourne Summer Series, Chinese teenager Zheng Qinwen, who broke through from the qualifiers, overcame a seven-1-5 deficit in the second set and resolved the set, and finally defeated Croatian girl Connew 7-6 (1)/7-6 (6) to reach the final four of the Tour for the first time in his career, and will face the winner between Halep and Grubić.

It was the first time in their careers that the two had competed. In the first set, the two sides engaged in a fierce confrontation, and the score alternately rose, reaching 6-6 in the first twelve sets. Entering the tie-7 showdown, Zheng Qinwen played even better, scoring 7-1 ahead of the city.

Entering the second set, both sides were stable in the serve, and each of the first twelve sets saved to 6-6. Entering the seven-game clash again, Zheng Qinwen trailed 1-5 and saved a set, and finally the small score sealed the victory 8-6, beating Connew 2-0 on aggregate to advance to the final four.

WTA250 Melbourne Summer Series Second Quarterfinals, former French Open finalist Anisimova defeated Begu 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, and reached the Tour Final Four again after the 2020 Auckland leg.
