When my grandfather was young, he participated in the reconstruction work after the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and those arduous and glorious years were not only engraved in his heart, but also deeply influenced me and inspired me to embark on the road of military service.
My grandfather was born in September 1936, when China was suffering from the aggression of Japanese imperialism, and the whole nation was facing a life-and-death test. In the early 50s of the 20th century, the Korean War broke out, "resist US aggression and aid Korea, defend the homeland and defend the country", Chairman Mao ordered, the Chinese people's volunteers rushed to the Korean battlefield, and the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea began. After the victory of the war in 1953, the defeated U.S. military stationed troops in South Korea in the name of helping South Korea resume production and rebuild after the war. In response, China and the DPRK signed an agreement to retain 250,000 volunteers in the DPRK to support the DPRK's post-war reconstruction. The 20-year-old grandfather joined the DPRK with the army in 1956 and became a soldier of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, mainly responsible for the construction of roads and railways in the border areas and the task of guarding. In 1958, with the withdrawal of the Volunteer Army from North Korea, my grandfather was arranged to work in the Railway Corps Headquarters, participated in the construction of the Qinglu Railway (Qingshui Station), opened roads in the mountains and built bridges in the water, worked without mistakes in two years, and was awarded two third-class merits and merged into the party, becoming an excellent Communist Party member.
Grandpa is now 90 years old, with a strong body and love to do good deeds. As a veteran Communist Party member, after his retirement, he also exerted his spare energy to actively lecture on party history and attend party classes for new party members and young pioneers in the community, and everyone affectionately called him "old revolutionary".
Grandpa was a low-key and introverted person, and he didn't say much about supporting North Korea, and he always said that his contribution was not worth mentioning compared to those sacrificed comrades. He often said to me: "Son, the strength of a country is inseparable from everyone's efforts. Our generation, following the party, has exchanged their youth and blood for today's peace and prosperity, and you must cherish the good days of the present. ”
Grandpa always had a wish, he hoped that someone in the family would inherit his mantle. But my father was not able to join the army due to physical reasons, which was a regret in my grandfather's heart. Over time, I grew up. Due to the influence of my grandfather since I was a child, I have developed a strong interest in military knowledge since I was a child, and I love to read a lot of military books and magazines. Whenever I see on the news about the country's military power and rising international status, I am extremely proud. Therefore, after graduation, I did not hesitate to choose to join the army, from the registration to the physical examination, from the pre-service training to the train in Fuzhou, the moment I put on the military uniform, I feel extremely honored. Before leaving, my grandfather didn't say much, just patted me on the shoulder and said, "You have really grown up, you have to work hard in the army!" I saw tears in the corners of his eyes filled with excitement and reluctance. Therefore, I made up my mind to win glory for myself and my grandfather.
Since I didn't have a foundation for physical training when I was in school, I didn't get very good grades when I first joined the recruit company. I failed the 3000-meter run, and I couldn't pull up any of the horizontal bars, so I was a little confused and complained to my grandfather. My grandfather encouraged me on the other end of the phone: "As long as you don't give up, you can make progress if you are willing to work hard, and your skills are practiced day by day." "I always keep in mind my grandfather's teachings, and when I am training, I grit my teeth and persevere to the end when I encounter difficulties and hardships, because I know that if I am not good at martial arts, I am not a qualified soldier! It's been more than three months since I started the trip, and I've been able to reach a good level in all my pentathlons. In terms of learning, the squadron organized a discussion on the "Concept of Struggle in the New Era" and a story meeting on "Fighting Spirit" in combination with this year's educational practice activities, which allowed me to learn more about the stories of veterans like my grandfather. During the war years, they sacrificed their lives to defend the territory of the motherland and the peace of the people, which strengthened my conviction and pursuit. Like my grandfather, I want to firmly move closer to the party organization, become a member of the Communist Party, serve in the army for a long time, and contribute my strength to the cause of national defense.
Grandpa, your footprints are a beacon for me to move forward, and your story is my eternal pride. As a glorious armed police soldier, for me, this identity is not only an honor, but also a kind of inheritance. I will use my own practical actions to contribute to the motherland like my grandfather.
