The main members of the Beijing 1979 ice hockey team were students in the ice hockey class of the Beijing Shichahai Amateur Sports School in the 1970s. The Shichahai ice hockey class, which had provided reserve talents for the Beijing team and the national team, was disbanded in 1979. With the success of Beijing's bid for the Winter Olympics, the flame of ice hockey has been rekindled in the hearts of the old boys who once played the ice rink. Just in 2015, nine members of the Shichahai ice hockey class regrouped at the Wukesong Ice Rink, and after more than three decades, they once again fought side by side. They decided to regroup and name the team 1979, continuing their hockey dreams. Today, the Beijing 1979 ice hockey team gathers most of the old players, coupled with some reserve forces, the team has changed from the initial nine people to a large team of more than 40 people, the average age of the team members is nearly 60 years old, and every Wednesday and Saturday will hold training matches at the Beijing Aozhong Ice Sports Center.
