Canada's BlackBerry Company stopped updating the service system of BlackBerry mobile phones since January 4, which means that almost all models of this once popular mobile phone have been officially retired. Users will no longer be able to perform some basic operations with the phone, including transmitting data, surfing the Internet, sending messages and making phone calls, or even making emergency calls.

According to Agence France-Presse, BlackBerry posted a statement on its website last month saying that stopping updating the service system means that BlackBerry phones will not be able to complete many functions, including the above operations, normally. The affected models include all models running BlackBerry 7.1 OS operating system and earlier, BlackBerry 10 software and BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 and earlier. A few BlackBerry phones running the Android operating system are not affected.

BlackBerry came out in the 1990s and became a popular mobile phone brand for business people and celebrities after entering the 2000s, including former US President Barack Obama. BlackBerry pioneered a full-keyboard body design that allows users to send and receive email, browse the web, and chat online with their own software.
