Apple took a new year off, becoming the first public company to be valued at $3 trillion on the first day of trading in 2022. The Cupertino-based tech giant hit a high of $182.85 on Monday, briefly reaching the $3 trillion mark. By the time the market closed, the stock had slipped slightly to $182.01, meaning Apple ended the day with a market cap of $2.99 trillion.

This achievement is largely symbolic, but it does highlight how much value Apple has added in a relatively short period of time.

Apple reached a market capitalization of $1 trillion in August 2018 and will reach the $2 trillion mark in just two years. It took the tech giant just 16 months to raise another $1 trillion, more than $3 trillion.

Overall, the recent performance of big tech companies has been impressive. Microsoft is currently valued at $2.5 trillion, and Google isn't too far behind in its $2 trillion valuation. Amazon and Tesla have also performed well in recent months, with the former holding a market capitalization of $1.74 trillion and the latter at the time of writing at $1.2 trillion.

Apple reportedly has a solid lineup of products in 2022, including a new Mac, Apple Watch, an updated iPhone, and more. We might even see Apple's long-rumored VR.
