In 1931, less than half a year after the establishment of the CCP's XiachuanDong Special Committee, it was seriously damaged by warlords, and several people were arrested and defected.
Wanxian is the gateway to eastern Sichuan, connecting the western hubei, and is a necessary place for the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee to communicate with the Wuhan Yangtze River Bureau, which has a very important strategic position. Therefore, the organization decided to rebuild the Shimokawa East Special Committee.
At this critical moment, the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee entrusted this heavy responsibility to Luo Nanhui, who was experienced in the struggle.
After receiving the order, Luo Nanhui immediately left for Wanxian County. However, at this time, he did not know that since the destruction of the Chuandong Special Committee, the underground liaison station that had been painstakingly established had become a "liaison station" for warlords to arrest the Communist Party.
A few days later, when Luo Nanhui rushed to the Wanxian Shunhe Hotel, the secret contact point of the XiachuanDong Special Committee, he was surrounded by secret agents who had already been ambushed here to "guard the rabbits"
。
The agents also found a letter from the joint on him.
Unusually, in the face of cross-examination by the head of the secret service, Luo Nanhui bluntly admitted that he was a Communist Party.
However, how the agents refused to believe that he was a senior general of the CCP. After only eight months of detention, he was "driven out" of prison by the prison guards with the butt of his gun on his back.
Why did Luo Nanhui voluntarily admit to being a Communist Party after his arrest? Why did the agents throw him out of prison?
To answer these questions, we must start from the time of Luo Nanhui's arrest.
1. He was ordered to be arrested in danger
In 1928, the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China organized the first peasant revolt in Wanxian County. Two years later, the Shimokawa East Special Committee was established here, and several armed struggles were waged, which made the local warlords miserable.
Since then, Wanxian has become a thorn in the side of the reactionary warlords, and has always been the key area for their implementation of the "Qing Communists" and "suppression of reds."

(Old photo of Wanxian County, the gateway to eastern Sichuan)
They used the reconnaissance team composed of traitors to secretly arrest the personnel of our party's Xiachuandong Special Committee through finger-pointing or trapping. Many of them, under the coercion and inducement of the secret agents, defected to the enemy and confessed more secrets.
Under such circumstances, the Shimokawa Higashi Special Committee was completely destroyed in February 1931. After being arrested, Chen Jinyan, secretary of the Central Military Commission, preferred to die unyieldingly and sacrificed his precious life.
In this grim situation, in order to better carry out work, Su Younong, then secretary of the special committee, proposed to the Sichuan Provincial Party Committee that a military cadre should assist him in rebuilding the Special Committee for Eastern Xiachuan. The Organization believes that
Luo Nanhui, who is experienced in the struggle, is the most suitable candidate.
After receiving the order of the organization, Luo Nanhui immediately left for Wanxian County. As agreed, he stayed in a guest house on Sanma Road. This guest house is a secret contact point previously set up by the Shimokawa East Special Committee.
(After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Su Younong attended the UPU)
However, since the destruction of the Shimokawa East Special Committee, the underground liaison station painstakingly established by the organization has become a "liaison station" for warlords to arrest the Communists.
However, Luo Nanhui was ignorant of the dangers he faced at this time.
After Wu Jixia, a cadre of the Central Military Commission, was arrested, he immediately defected.
In order to make meritorious contributions, he pointed out to the warlords that Su Younong, the secretary of the special committee, had been arrested. In the face of the "sincere" surrender of the secret agent and the bitter persuasion of Wu Jixia,
In order to find out the details of the spies and try to protect more comrades, Su Younong expressed his willingness to "cooperate" with them after careful consideration.
During this period, Wu Jixia revealed to Su Younong the news he had received from the liaison station: the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China had sent people again.
Hearing this, Su Younong giggled in his heart.
Because at the beginning of the destruction of the Lower Dongchuan Special Committee, he immediately reported the situation to the organization and asked the province to send a military cadre to cooperate with him in the reconstruction work.
When he was just arrested a few days ago, Liang Zuohua, who had been appointed by the provincial party committee to serve as secretary general of the Xiadongchuan Special Committee, was arrested as soon as he arrived at the Xingsheng and liaison point in Wanxian County.
(Former site of the underground transportation station)
Su Younong hurriedly asked Wu Jixia who was coming, and Wu replied that the people who came were Luo Nanhui and Qijun, who now lived in a guest house on Sanma Road.
Moreover, Wu also revealed that he had not yet informed the warlord agents of the news.
In order to try to rescue Luo Nanhui, who was in danger, Su Younong immediately said to Wu Jixia: He wanted to see the cadres sent by the province.
In fact, he knew in his heart that his superiors had sent Luo Nanhui to succeed Chen Jinyan, who had been arrested and sacrificed earlier, as secretary of the Central Military Commission.
Therefore, Su Younong and Wu Jixia came to Sanma Road, met With Luo Nanhui and Qijun, and the four of them chatted. During this period, Su Younong repeatedly wanted to take the opportunity to tell Luo Nanhui: Wu Jixia has defected!
However, because Wu Jixia stayed with them all the time, there was no suitable opportunity.
Until the lights came on in the evening, Wu Jixia urged Su Younong to say: "It is so late, it is time to get on the ship." ”
So they had to say goodbye in a hurry.
(Agents mutilate Communists)
So, the two walked out of the guest house on their front and back feet. After Wu Jixia walked out of the door, Su Younong turned back and shook hands with Luo Nanhui who went downstairs to bid farewell.
He deliberately shook Luo Nanhui's hand vigorously, and at the same time quietly told him:
"Wu Jixia has mutinied, hurry up and run!"
At the same time, he also deliberately made a look, and then turned away.
Wu Jixia saw Su Younong turn around and say goodbye, and also returned to say goodbye to Luo Nanhui. After that, he followed Su Younong out of the door. Suddenly, Wu Jixia said to Su Younong in front of him, "Alas! Forgot to borrow money. ”
Originally, the "clever" Wu Jixia thought: Luo Nanhui was sent by the province, they must have money on them, and then if they were arrested by the warlords, then the money would definitely be searched and "confiscated", but it was better to ask them to "borrow" it, so that there was no need to return it.
On the way there, Wu Jixia told Su Younong about it.
At this time, Wu Jixia proposed to go back and borrow money. Su Younong pushed back and said that it was difficult to open his mouth, so he said to him, "You go!" Let's just say I borrowed it from him. ”
In this way, Wu Jixia, who was greedy for money, returned to the guest house alone.
(Stills of agents arresting Luo Nanhui)
At this time, Su Younong saw that there was no one around, so he quickly fled. He first returned to the seat of the special commission at the Sifang Well on telegraph road.
After pushing the door in, run straight to the back room. But the house was empty.
At this time, the landlord who lived in the front yard saw him running in and followed him. Su Younong then asked the landlord, "What about the people in the back room?" The landlord replied, "Since you went home for the New Year, they also left for Xuanhan this morning." ”
It turned out that after learning of Su Younong's arrest, Huang Bangkok and others chose to transfer immediately and lied to the landlord that Su Younong had returned home for the New Year.
The landlord saw that Su Younong, who had returned home for the New Year, had returned, and asked curiously. Su Younong lied: "I was robbed by bandits on the road, so I came back to block them from going back, I had to hurry to find them." ”
(Secret Agent Arrests Suspected Communist Party Member)
After prevarication, Su Younong left in a hurry.
Wu Jixia, who returned to borrow money, immediately informed the agents after leaving the guest house where Luo Nanhui lived.
Second, the resourceful response to the successful escape
Subsequently, Luo Nanhui was arrested at the Shunhe Hotel in Wanxian County.
But
The agents in charge of the arrest at the time did not know what the communist leaders they had arrested looked like. They took back all the guests in the hotel, including Luo Nanhui.
Subsequently, the agents found a letter on Luo Nanhui's body. It was a joint letter from the provincial party committee, which made the agents happy.
At this time, although Luo Nanhui was in prison, he was not in danger.
With a clear mind, he clearly knew his current situation. He thinks it will be difficult for him to escape at this time, and he should find ways to keep the secrets of the organization.
(Scene of Communist Party members being arrested)
However, the introduction letter on his body has been searched out by the enemy, and it clearly writes his pseudonym - Luo Min. How not to reveal his true identity is an urgent problem for Luo Nanhui to solve.
He pondered the countermeasures and came up with a good solution.
Luo Nanhui learned from the secret agents that they only knew that there was a Communist Party to join them, but they did not know the identity of the person who came and other details.
At this time, no one in Wanxian knew him, as long as he tried to hide his identity, he might have the opportunity to escape.
So he decided to disguise himself as a beggar and falsely claimed that he had come to earn some money for running errands for others, so as to deceive the other party.
When the head of the secret service heard that a major Communist Party official might be caught, he was very excited and said that he would personally interrogate him.
But when he entered the interrogation room, he saw a man in rags and a yellow-skinned man standing in front of him, like a beggar
Suddenly, I felt very surprised: Was he an important member of the Communist Party who had come to the joint?
(Old photo of the Red Army)
Although Luo Nanhui was only 23 years old at this time, due to the perennial war for the revolution, he often felt the wind and rain outside, and his body was tanned.
Coupled with the ragged clothes, he looked like a farmer in his forties, and he didn't look like an official
The head of the secret service then asked him, "Your name is Luo Min?" Is it the Communist Party? ”
Luo Nanhui thought to himself, at this time, if he vigorously denied his identity, it was likely to arouse the suspicion of the enemy even more, and it was better to admit it directly and let the other party think that he was a stupid beggar who did not know whether he was dead or alive. There may be a glimmer of life in this way.
Therefore, Luo Nanhui calmly said, "Yes, I am the Communist Party!" ”
The agent was stunned when he heard this. Because, in the past, the Communist Party they caught was all hard bones, and they refused to admit that they were Communists.
Moreover, at that time, the Communists were caught and wanted to be killed, and for the first time, the spies saw someone who actually took the initiative to admit that they were Communists. The humble guy in front of him actually confessed so quickly, there must be something wrong with it.
(Underground traffic joint scene)
"Then what position do you hold and what kind of work do you do?" The agent asked him again. Luo Nanhui replied that he was sending a letter to someone else.
"Underground traffic cop?" The agent then asked. Ronan Hui nodded in agreement.
The agent went on to ask, "How did you become a traffic officer for the Communist Party?" ”
Luo Nanhui replied without even thinking about it:
"The family is poor, there is no livelihood, usually waiting for work on the side of the road, mainly to take some errands, some bosses do not want to run, let me send letters for them, a trip to give a trip to three melons and two dates."
Hearing this, the agent asked, "Who is the boss who made you deliver the letter?" ”
Luo Nanhui did not hesitate for a moment, and then replied, "I used to work in the shisha shop, the boss there." ”
When the head of the secret service heard this, he felt even more confused, feeling that this guy had a nose, an eye, a name and a surname, and it didn't look like he was lying.
It is so easy to give an account of it all, which is completely different from those hard-mouthed Communist Parties! Is he making up a story? It shouldn't be possible.
(Secret Agent Interrogation Room)
The agent hesitated for a moment, then asked:
"How does he usually contact you?"
Luo Nanhui replied: "I usually stand on the side of the street to do work when I have no work, and if the boss needs me to run errands, he will come to the street to find me." I don't see him at other times, but this kind of work is rare, and it will only happen once in a long time. ”
The head of the secret service looked up and down at Luo Nanhui in front of him, silent, probably thinking about what he said.
This man really looked like a beggar who didn't have enough to eat, and what he said didn't look like a fake.
But, after all, they caught him at the Communist point of contact and found letters of introduction from him. Usually, when they treat people suspected to be communists, they always preferred to kill a thousand by mistake rather than let one go, so they did not plan to release Luo Nanhui immediately.
At this time, Luo Nanhui's heart was actually a little bottom.
Because he saw the head of the secret service looking himself up and down doubtfully, he knew that they already believed his words a little, but there was no reason to let him go.
(Secret Agent Boss Stills)
He decided to continue with his plan,
Smiling and lowering his eyebrows, he asked: Boss, I am too hungry to bear it, can I give something to eat.
The head of the secret service was wondering when he suddenly heard him say this, and he suddenly lost his breath
He stood up and scolded, "Actually dare to beg for food at my place and lock him up for me!" ”
At this time, although the agents were suspicious of his words, they did not fully believe him.
Over the next few days, agents used various means to test whether what he said was true, and even used heavy sentences.
But Luo Nanhui always spoke consistently, which was supported by his beliefs as a Communist Party member.
When the agents had nothing to do, they sentenced Luo Nanhui to a year in prison for helping the Communists deliver letters. Subsequently, Luo Nanhui was put in prison.
(Former site of Chongqing Reflection Institute)
Due to the years of war, the people had no one to rely on, and many people engaged in the business of killing people and goods, adultery and robbery, so that the prison in Ba County was overcrowded at that time.
Therefore, Luo Nanhui was transferred to the Chongqing Provincial Court.
The Chongqing Reflection Institute was a very famous prison at the time, and like the infamous Zha Di Cave, it was specially used to imprison communists.
The interrogators here are not as confused as the spies. They are all rigorously trained, have strong reconnaissance skills, and are cruel in their means.
During the period when Luo Nanhui was imprisoned, they tried to trick Luo Nanhui into telling the truth through various methods, but Luo Nanhui always maintained a high degree of vigilance and did not have a plan.
When he was about to finish his sentence, the prison guard quietly told him that his sentence was about to end, and he quickly packed up his things and prepared to leave. Then, the prison guards secretly observed Luo Nanhui's reaction.
(Kuomintang cell for prisoners)
At this time, Luo Nanhui's mind was very clear. He believed that the reason why the enemy had quietly told him this news was nothing more than to test his reaction.
Because he knew that the Communist Party imprisoned here had hardly ever gotten out alive. If they show a very happy look at this time, they will certainly not let themselves go.
Although they are not sure that they are communists, they have always been suspicious and have tested themselves many times.
Therefore, hearing the prison guard say that he was going to be released after completing his sentence, Luo Nanhui immediately lay down on the iron window and pleaded: Boss, you are doing well, don't let me go out, after going out, I will have no place to eat, no matter whether it is good or bad, I can still have food every day.
After the prison guard listened, he just said coldly: "You think it's beautiful." ”
For days after that, prison guards watched Ronanhui's actions. They found no suspicious signs and felt that it was a waste of food to keep him here, so they decided to release him early.
(Interior view of Kuomintang prison)
One day, two prison guards opened his cell door and told him to leave quickly. But Luo Nanhui decided to finish the play, only to see him grab the railing and refuse to go, and shouted:
The day has not yet arrived? Haven't closed enough?
In desperation, the prison guards had to use the butt of his rifle to hold his back and push him out of the prison: hurry up! Waste of food!
Third, fall on the eve of the victory of the Long March
With his composure and wit, Ronanhui managed to escape the clutches of the enemy at the end of 1931.
After his release from prison, Luo Nanhui returned to work in the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and served as the leader of the gang gang group, mainly responsible for cleaning up traitors and killing spies.
The eastern Sichuan guerrilla army led by Wang Weizhou was reorganized into the 33rd Army of the Red Army. In October 1933, Luo Nanhui was assigned by the organization to serve as deputy commander of this new unit.
(Old photo of Wang Weizhou)
Together with Wang Weizhou, he led all the officers and men of the Red Thirty-third Army to fight independently, and successively won victories in battles such as the anti-"six-way siege" in the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet Region and the elimination of "divine soldiers" in Wanyuan.
It has made great contributions to disintegrating the enemy's heavy encirclement and suppression and protecting the Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet region
In the campaign to crush the Kuomintang army's "six-way encirclement and suppression", he served as the commander-in-chief, facing the enemy's heavy encirclement and crazy attack.
He led his troops to repel more than twenty enemy attacks, and finally annihilated the strength of four regiments of the Kuomintang army, achieving the first victory after the establishment of the Thirty-third Army.
In the campaign to eliminate the "Divine Soldiers" in Wanyuan, he led his troops to five battles and five victories, annihilating more than 5,000 enemy people, effectively protecting the security of the rear of the Soviet area.
In February 1935, the Red 33rd Army received an order from the headquarters of the Red Fourth Front to start the Long March from Chengkou and cross the Jialing River to the west.
They mainly served as the rear guard of the Red Fourth Front, counterattacking the encircling and intercepting Kuomintang troops to cover the westward transfer of the headquarters of the Red Fourth Front.
(Sichuan-Shaanxi Soviet District anti-"six-way siege")
On the march, the headquarters organs carried a large number of documents and other materials, and there were many wounded. Therefore, the marching speed is very slow, and the task of the Red Thirty-third Army is very arduous.
However, all officers and men have no complaints about this. Faced with the heavy encirclement of the Kuomintang army, they fought while helping the personnel of the organs to transport supplies.
Under their cover, the headquarters of the Red Fourth Front broke through the enemy's heavy encirclement and entered the appeasement and other places after countless hardships.
The Headquarters of the Red Thirty-third Army was stationed in Suijing County, and brilliantly fulfilled the task entrusted by its superiors to serve as the rear guard of the Red Fourth Front.
The forced crossing of the Luo River was a key victory for the Red Thirty-third Army on the Long March. Under the leadership of Luo Nanhui, the officers and men of the army and the Ninety-eighth Division braved sacrifices and repelled the enemy's crazy attack, annihilating more than 400 enemy soldiers and capturing more than 1,500 people.
In May 1935, after the Red 33rd Army arrived in Lifan, the Kuomintang gathered 3,000 troops and launched a fierce attack on the county seat of Lifan.
(Former site of the headquarters of the 33rd Army of Chengkou Hong)
Luo Nanhui took the lead and rushed up to the city tower to engage in a fierce battle with the enemy. At this time, Xu Qiangqian, the commander-in-chief of the Red Fourth Front, instructed them to preserve their strength.
After calmly analyzing the battlefield situation at that time, Luo Nanhui decided to "hold the position, gather the troops, crush the enemy, preserve strength, and facilitate another battle."
Subsequently, he ordered the 295th Regiment to immediately rush to Lifan for support, in order to form an internal and external attack on the enemy attacking the county town, and finally repelled several enemy attacks, killing more than 500 Kuomintang troops.
A month later, the Red First and Fourth Fronts met the division in victory at Maogong.
At this time, the Kuomintang Li Baobing's troops attacked Danba Cannon Mountain. Luo Nanhui was ordered to lead the Red Thirty-third Army to block the attack, and finally won a great victory.
A generous gift was presented to the Red Army
Later, at the age of 27, Luo Nanhui succeeded Wang Weizhou as the commander of the Red Thirty-third Army.
In the second half of 1936, the term "huishi" appeared more and more frequently in the senior generals of the Red Army. The Red First, Second, and Fourth Fronts gradually moved closer to the borders of Gansu and Ningxia, and what the commanders and fighters were eagerly looking forward to was the division.
(Li Zongren)
On October 9 of the same year, the Red First and Fourth Fronts first met in Huining, Gansu.
At this time, the Red Second Front also broke through the encirclement of the Kuomintang army and marched day and night towards the Huining area.
Under these circumstances, Chiang Kai-shek immediately mobilized heavy troops to surround the Red Army in an attempt to wipe them all out in Gansu and other places. The main forces of Huzong's southern region were all dispatched, besieging the Huining area from the east, south and west.
In order to hold back the menacing Kuomintang army and ensure the victory of the main force of the Red Army, Luo Nanhui was ordered to lead the Red Fifth Army to defend between Huajialing and Majiayingzi south of Huining to block the enemy.
Luo Nanhui ambushed his troops on both sides of the road through which the enemy had to pass, and stepped up the construction of fortifications. In the early morning of October 22 of the same year, the main force of Huzong's southern siege of Huining from the south penetrated into the pockets of the Red Fifth Army.
(Former site of the Fifth Red Army)
Luo Nanhui immediately ordered all the commanders and fighters to launch an onslaught on the enemy. In the face of the fierce artillery fire of the Red Army, the Kuomintang army quickly collapsed and fled in all directions.
Subsequently, the warriors jumped out of the trenches and pounced on the enemy, and finally won the ambush battle.
However, after dawn, Kuomintang aircraft flew over the Huajialing area and launched a wild bombardment of our army's positions.
Luo Nanhui, who was directing the battle on the front line, was unfortunately shot in the chest and head, and immediately bled blood
He did not choose to leave the position, but let the hygienist simply bandage it directly in the trenches and then sit on a stretcher to continue commanding the troops.
On the day Luo Nanhui was wounded, the Red First and Second Fronts met at The General Tai fort in southern Huining, and the Great Long March ended in victory.
In the days that followed, the Fifth Red Army continued to maneuver with the Kuomintang army around Dadunliang. Luo Nanhui, who was seriously injured, refused to leave the battlefield no matter how much everyone persuaded him.
At about 1:00 p.m., the enemy once again dispatched aircraft to indiscriminately bombard the positions of the Fifth Red Army. Luo Nanhui was shot again and died heroically.
(Bronze statue of Luo Nanhui martyr)
Together with more than 800 commanders and fighters, the deputy commander of the Fifth Red Army used his life to end the magnificent Long March. He was only 28 years old.
IV. Conclusion
After Luo Nanhui was captured by the Kuomintang agents, he relied on his own ingenuity to fight with the enemy. After escaping death, he returned to the organization and threw himself into the revolutionary cause.
Although he fell on the road of the Long March, the spirit of the Red Army in him will live on forever.
Luo Nanhui was not only an outstanding commander in the Red Army, but also an excellent revolutionary. His spirit of dedication to the party and the people will forever be engraved on the monument of history! Remembered by the people!
