The Terracotta Warriors and Horses were discovered in March 1974 when the country set off a campaign of agricultural science, and in order to solve the problem of water shortage, Lintong County at that time set up a well drilling office to drill 31 wells locally. As a technical operation department, the well drilling team of the Lintong District Water Conservancy Bureau invited Sun Dingmou and Zhao Youke, retired employees who had been drilling wells for a lifetime and had a lot of experience, to be responsible for technical guidance. Before digging the well, Zhao Youke asked Fang Jianchang to choose the well position.
Fang Jianchang was a staff member of Yanzhai Commune at that time, and as a staff member of the government department, he was responsible for determining the position of the well. After investigating and studying the terrain, Fang Jianchang finally set the well position in the southwest of the village. In March 1974, after they selected the well location in Xiyang Village, the villagers were responsible for the construction.
Yang Xinman was one of the farmers involved in digging wells at that time. At noon one day, when everyone was drying up, they suddenly found that there was something abnormal in the 4-meter-deep soil, and then continued to dig deeper, revealing a servant of the Qin figurines.
Next, they found many terracotta warriors with broken limbs and broken arms, digging wells and digging out treasures? Everyone was excited. Although they did not know the value and significance of these things at that time, this sudden gain still made them happy. The peasants scrambled to watch the terracotta warriors and gave it a nice name.
Just after the accident of this well drilling, the villagers immediately reported to the well drilling team of the Water Conservancy Bureau. This incident attracted a lot of attention from the team, and they considered that this place is not far from the Mausoleum of the First Emperor of Qin, and perhaps these excavated pottery figurines have a certain cultural relics value.
As a government worker, Fang Jianchang also came to the drilling site, he saw these terracotta warriors, he knew that the matter was very important, on the one hand, let the drilling team suspend the construction, on the other hand, he quickly sent someone to contact the county government.
Subsequently, Fang Jianchang and Sun Dingmou, who realized that the cultural relics may have been excavated, immediately reported to the government and relevant departments, and attracted the attention of the Lintong County Cultural Relics Bureau, and immediately formed an archaeological team to investigate.
March 29, 1974, is a memorable day for the history of modern Chinese archaeology, and since then, it has unveiled the prelude to an archaeological discovery that shocked the world. Three months later, in June 1974, excavations of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses of Qin Shi Huang began, and construction began at the same time as the Construction of the Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum of Qin Shi Huang.
