South Korean wafer foundry DB HiTek produces semiconductor chips by making thin films made of gallium nitride (GaN) materials on silicon wafers, a technology that can respond to fast-growing markets such as communications equipment, electric vehicle chargers and solar converters.

According to Korean media etnews, GaN is a next-generation semiconductor material that can improve the power efficiency of communication equipment, electric vehicle fast chargers and solar converters. DB HiTek will produce 8-inch semiconductors based on gallium-on-Si (GaN-Si) technology, which is expected to streamline wafer processing to enhance profitability by improving the competitiveness of semiconductor manufacturing.

DB HiTek expects to use its Chungbuk plant to address the 8-inch market this year, and the company plans to meet demand for 8-inch semiconductors such as electric vehicles and electric equipment by fully utilizing Sangwoo fab capacity in Chungbuk or making additional investments.
