Since there was light in the night, the neighbors saw it, thought it was a fire, and ran to the rescue, but there was nothing. Longer than long, majestic, odd bones through the top. Ambition is unfathomable.
The eight words of "posture and majesty, strange bones through the top" give a general description of Zhu Yuanzhang's appearance, what is important is the "adventure" when Zhu Yuanzhang's mother gave birth to Zhu Yuanzhang mentioned earlier: Mother Zhu encountered God in her dream to give a pill, and after eating it, her mouth was full of incense, and the indoor red light lasted for several nights! This adventure and the eight words about Zhu Yuanzhang's appearance are added together, giving people unlimited room for reverie. The most important four words are "strange bones through the top", I think there can be two understandings: first, Zhu Yuanzhang's skull, especially the top bone, is very strange and different; second, Zhu Yuanzhang is bone-clear and distinctive from the foot to the head.
All in all, Zhu Yuanzhang is definitely a person with a clear bone, but it is still not related to the "shoehorn face". In fact, the shape of Zhu Yuanzhang's shoehorn face is due to his son Zhu Di. Zhu Di became emperor in the name of "Qing Junfang", using improper methods, in order to show that the emperor's father died and his son succeeded to the throne, and he was legally on the throne, he beautified his relationship with Zhu Yuanzhang, and at the same time "strangely" Zhu Yuanzhang.
The court version of Zhu Yuanzhang
Zhu Di said that Zhu Yuanzhang had a dream when he was not emperor, and in the dream, a mysterious person hung a piece of precious jade around Zhu Yuanzhang's neck. After the dream, Zhu Yuanzhang felt that his neck hurt, and later it didn't hurt, but his face became a shoehorn face. Others said that Zhu Yuanzhang's face was the face of an emperor, richer than before, and later Zhu Yuanzhang really came to the world. According to the story made up by Zhu Di, someone painted a portrait of Zhu Yuanzhang, which is the famous shoehorn face of Zhu Yuanzhang.
There is also a legend that Zhu Yuanzhang found a painter to paint a portrait of himself, and the previous painters all painted truthfully, and as a result, Zhu Yuanzhang said that the painter scandalized himself and killed them. The last painter painted Zhu Yuanzhang with great appearance and was rewarded. After the painter left the palace, he painted the real Zhu Yuanzhang with his memory, which is the portrait of the shoehorn face, which was later circulated in the folk. But many historians say the story is fictional and unreliable.
According to historical records, in the middle of the Ming Dynasty, a minister saw the portrait of Zhu Yuanzhang in the Wuying Hall, and he found that it was completely different from the portrait of Zhu Yuanzhang with the face of the folk shoehorn, and he described it like this: "The appearance of Taizu, the eyebrows are torched, the face is like a full moon, the beard is not a ruler, and it is very different from the legend of the folk!" The "legendary image of the folk" mentioned here is the portrait of Zhu Yuanzhang on the face of the shoehorn.
In the end, what Does Zhu Yuanzhang look like, I think the "palace version" is more reliable. In fact, it is not so much the palace version and the folk version, but rather the "clan version" and the "external version". The portrait of Zhu Yuanzhang inside the court is for the clan room to see, and the ministers can rarely see it, so when the descendants of the Zhu family see Zhu Yuanzhang, his kind portrait gives people a sense of closeness. And the external version of Zhu Yuanzhang, is for the people to see, that mighty and strange appearance, although ugly, but let everyone feel: indeed different, worthy of the emperor, really have the posture of an emperor!
