A plate of green vegetables, a pot of lemon duck, a bowl of seaweed egg flower soup, this is the recipe of Deng Quanyin, a cross-border driver in Dongxing City, Guangxi Province, and his family of three cross-Chinese New Year's Eve.

"Although simple, it is very warm, if it were not for the Dongxing epidemic, I would still be under closed-loop management." Deng Quanyin said.

Cross-border substitute drivers are a special profession that has been derived from the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to prevent the epidemic from being imported and exported through border crossings. China and Vietnam have agreed that at border ports such as Dongxing and Pingxiang, the inbound and outbound freight vehicles will be driven by cross-border chauffeurs, and the entry and exit of cross-border chauffeurs between China and Vietnam will be managed in a closed loop.

On 21 December 2021, Dongxing City, Guangxi Province, reported a locally confirmed case. "We also received a notice on the same day to suspend the cross-border driving business." Deng Quanyin said.

After 7 days of hotel quarantine, Deng Quanyin and other cross-border drivers applied to end closed-loop management. After that, he returned to his rental house on Xingdong Road in Dongxing City to isolate at home.

"Usually after the work can no longer go home, the whole process of closed-loop management, my lover every day to make meals, sent to the isolation hotel designated place for me." Although it is close at hand, I still miss my wife and children for such a long time. Deng Quanyin said.

Deng Quanyin decided to take advantage of the epidemic to accompany his wife and children on New Year's Eve, eat a reunion dinner at home, and help his wife do housework.

"In the days of cross-border driving, my wife was afraid, and I felt very guilty in my heart." Deng Quanyin said that the current overseas epidemic situation is severe and complex, and the risk of cross-border drivers being infected is very large. "So before we leave the country, we must first go to the toilet, drink less water on the car, and when we go abroad, try not to go to the toilet, and try to have as little contact with the locals." Deng Quanyin said.

Deng Quanyin said: "During the peak season, you can get a monthly salary of more than 20,000 yuan (RMB, the same below) every month, and after a year, your income is more than 100,000 yuan. ”

"Under the epidemic, other jobs are not easy to find, dry driving is not far from home, and you can take a vacation when you want your family." In 2022, I still want to continue to do cross-border driving. Deng Quanyin said.

Deng Quanyin introduced that in Dongxing, there are hundreds of drivers who do cross-border driving. According to the data provided by the Dongxing Entry-Exit Border Inspection Station, before the outbreak, there were about 1,000 trucks entering and leaving the country every day at the peak of the Dongxing Port.

Like Deng Quanyin, Xu Wenbin, who lives in Dongxing City, is also a member of the cross-border driver group. Xu Wenbin hopes that there will be no more epidemics in 2022 and everything will return to normal.

"Although the income is relatively high, the family is very worried, and every time she is ready to work, the wife must repeatedly advise and protect herself." Xu Wenbin said that the hardest way to drive across the border is summer, wearing thick protective clothing, wearing a sweat, and when you return to the station after work, your clothes can be wrung out of the water.

Cross-border drivers are looking forward to resuming customs clearance and resuming work and production as soon as possible. They don't understand what their careers mean to keep international supply chains open. But they know that many of the trucks they drive are mechanical and electrical products, and these mechanical and electronic components are produced in Chinese factories and shipped to Vietnam for assembly.

According to the statistics of Guangxi Customs Department, from January to November 2021, the total value of foreign trade imports and exports in Dongxing City was 18.19 billion yuan, of which the total import value was 16.31 billion yuan, and the main commodities were: food, fruits and chemical products; the total export value was 1.88 billion yuan, and the main commodities were mechanical and electrical products, agricultural products and textiles.

On the evening of December 31, 2021, the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region COVID-19 Epidemic Prevention and Control Headquarters held a press conference in Dongxing. According to the press conference, at 0-24:00 on December 30, there were no new local confirmed cases in Dongxing City. There are currently 19 locally confirmed cases. The sixth round of large-scale population nucleic acid screening in Dongxing City, which began on December 30, has a cumulative sample of 208,600 people, and the results are negative.
