In October 2020, Stupid Dad posted a review of Baby Cream. (Click to review: 51 baby cream reviews (Part 1): Sensitive skin needs to pay attention to these 33 models & 51 baby creams reviewed: moisturizing ability is obviously different, 2 models detect trace heavy metals )
In autumn and winter, not only the baby's face needs to be moisturized, but the baby's body also needs to be moisturized, which can help the baby effectively avoid or alleviate eczema, itching, desquamation and other skin problems caused by the change of season.
Unlike cream, which is thicker and more closed for facial moisturizing, body moisturizing is more recommended to use lotion products with a moisturizing and light texture, which is easy to push away in a large area and is more suitable for applying to the whole body.
In this issue, we will start the evaluation of baby's body milk.
In this issue [Part I], Stupid Dad chose 57 well-known and high-selling baby body lotions as evaluation objects, first help everyone clear mines, and see which products contain risky ingredients that may not be friendly to babies.

The following are the product packaging charts and reference prices of the 57 baby body lotions reviewed in this issue:
(P.S. Baby Body Lotion is a general term for dairy skin care products used in the body, and some products such as moisturizer/lotion and moisturizing milk/lotion also belong to the category of baby body lotion and are included in this review.) )
<h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" > pay attention to three types of preservatives: Chun juan / Qianzhi Materia Medica / QV and other 13 strokes! </h1>
Preservatives are common ingredients in baby skin care products to prevent the product from becoming contaminated with bacteria and deteriorating. However, the following three types of preservatives require special attention: parabens, MIT/CMIT, and formaldehyde emitters.
1. Parabens
Paraben, also known as paraben, is a type of preservative that has a wide range of antibacterial effects on mold, yeast, and bacteria.
Paraben preservatives usually appear in the product ingredient list as abbreviations, such as: methylparaben, ethylparaben, propyloxyphenyl ester, hydroxyphenylbutyl ester...
(Example: Ing's Baby Moisturizer)
Studies have shown that parabens are endocrine disruptors that accumulate in the human body, and long-term exposure may affect normal endocrine levels in the body. At the same time, it has a certain irritation, and excessive use may cause contact dermatitis.
It is generally believed that the safety of short-chain parabens (methylparaben, hydroxyphenylethyl ester) is relatively high at permissible concentrations, while the risk of long-chain parabens (hydroxyphenylpropyl ester, hydroxyphenylbutyl ester) is greater. China's "Cosmetic Safety Technical Specifications" (2015 edition) has banned isopropyl hydroxyphenyl and its salts, hydroxyphenyl isobutyl ester and its salts.
(Figure: U.S. Environmental Task Force EWG risk level assessment, increasing risk from 1 to 10, the same below)
Among the 57 baby body lotions evaluated in this issue, 11 models such as Ego QV, Honey Language, Ying's, Baby Crocodile, Baby Jinshui, Nobixing, Bebeshu, Qianzhi Materia Medica, and Chunjuan have added hydroxyphenyl methyl ester and hydroxyphenylpropyl ester at the same time. There are no products with the addition of hydroxyphenylethyl ester and hydroxyphenylbutyl ester.
2、MIT/CMIT
MIT (methylisothiazolinone) and CMIT (methylchloroisothiazolinone) are also broad-spectrum bactericidal preservatives that are often used in cosmetics.
(Example: Chun Juan TeRun Essence Baby Honey)
MIT and CMIT have certain sensitization to the skin, and long-term contact may cause allergic reactions such as redness, itchiness, dermatitis and so on. In particular, MIT was recognized as the "Allergen of the Year 2013" by the American Society of Contact Dermatitis.
China's Cosmetic Safety Technical Specifications (2015 edition) stipulate that the concentration of MIT use shall not exceed 0.01%, while the European Union prohibits the use of MIT in resident products, and the concentration of use of leaching products shall not exceed 0.0015%.
(Figure: U.S. Environmental Task Force EWG Risk Level Assessment)
Among the 57 baby body lotions evaluated in this issue, Chunjuan and Qianzhi Materia Medica 2 models added MIT (methylisothiazolinone), and no CMIT products were added.
3. Formaldehyde emitters
Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, that is, by slowly releasing formaldehyde to play a role in sterilization and antiseptic.
However, formaldehyde has a certain irritation, long-term contact may produce skin irritation reactions, the eyes, respiratory system, nervous system and so on may also have an impact. China's Cosmetic Safety Technical Specifications (2015 Edition) stipulate that the concentration of formaldehyde in cosmetics ≤ 0.2%, which is consistent with the standards of the United States and the European Union.
In cosmetics, common formaldehyde-releasing preservatives include: 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol, quaternary ammonium-15, DMDM hydantoin, imidazolyl urea and the like.
Among the 57 baby body lotions evaluated in this issue, 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol was added to the yu baby baby emollient lotion and the yu baby fang parent-child bath after-milk.
To sum up, long-term exposure to parabens, MIT/CMIT, formaldehyde releaser preservatives may bring adverse reactions to the skin, but the specific impact is related to the amount of addition, the baby's skin texture, and it is not that there will be adverse reactions when used.
However, out of caution, it is recommended that babies with sensitive skin, eczema or broken skin should try to avoid body lotion products that add these ingredients.
<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" > eu's list of allergenic flavors: Avanore/Stauff/Harosan/Shiba/Vired on the list! </h1>
Adding fragrance to your baby's body lotion can help mask the smell of raw materials while adding a unique fragrance to bring pleasure to your baby.
However, the fragrance is only a general term, the specific varieties are as many as thousands, and the safety of different types of flavors is actually very different. The EU Cosmetic Directive lists the following 26 allergenic flavor ingredients:
Among them, benzyl alcohol, limonene, linalool, geraniol, and citral all appeared in some of the baby's body milk in this issue.
Four models of Avino, Staf, Harosan and Shiba have added benzyl alcohol.
(Example: Harrow Flash Baby Soft Skin Lotion)
Verede added limonene, linalool, geraniol, and citral.
(Vered Calendula Baby Skin Care Lotion)
Since the relevant Chinese regulations do not require the specific ingredients of the fragrance to be listed, only the "flavor" can be uniformly labeled, so from the domestic product ingredient list, it is impossible to know the specific flavor type, nor can it know whether it belongs to the easily sensitive ingredient.
(Example: Luanshi New Life Comfort Lotion)
If you are not sure if your baby is allergic to flavors, you should first do a topical application test before using a large area, or choose not to add a body lotion with flavors.
Among the 57 baby body lotions evaluated in this issue, there are 29 products marked with "flavors" in the ingredient list.
Burt Little Bee is labeled as a "natural spice".
(Burt Little Bee Baby Lotion)
In addition, there are some baby body lotions that add one or more plant extract ingredients, and due to the complex composition of plant extracts, there may be potential allergens. For example: sweet orange oil, peppermint leaf oil, has a certain irritation, long-term or high doses may cause skin allergies.
(Example: Ring House Baby And Child Multi-Effect Body Lotion)
(Example: Yu Baby Fang Baby Emollient Lotion)
Therefore, the body milk with plant extracts is also recommended to do a local test to make sure that the baby is not allergic before using it.
<h1 class= "pgc-h-arrow-right" > milk protein allergy: need to pay attention to Johnson & Johnson / Harrow Flash / Yu Baby Fang and other 7 models! </h1>
Milk protein is added to your baby's body milk, which can nourish the skin and increase the smell of milk.
However, if your baby is allergic to cow's milk protein, you should avoid such products, otherwise you may experience skin allergies after use.
(Example: Johnson & Johnson Baby Milk Lotion)
Among the 57 baby body lotions reviewed in this issue, 7 models of Baby Jinshui, Baby Crocodile, Johnson & Johnson, Yu Baby Fang, Ying Shi, Haro Shan, and Ai Ai have added milk protein.
(P.S. Hydrolyzed cow's milk protein is less allergenic than intact cow's milk protein, but may still be allergenic to some babies.) )
Finally, a few ingredients should be mentioned: propylene glycol, phenoxyethanol, bhtholene, triethanolamine.
From the current research and national standard regulations, within the allowable dosage range, the safety of these ingredients is relatively high, and babies with healthy skin do not have to worry too much.
If your baby's skin is too delicate and sensitive, or if there are already serious eczema, trauma and other problems, you may want to consider avoiding it.
<h1 class="pgc-h-arrow-right" > 39 baby body lotions contain "attention ingredients"</h1>
Based on the above analysis, among the 57 models of baby body milk reviewed, the following 39 models have "attention components", as shown in the following figure:
Finally, summarize and highlight:
1, paraben esters, MIT/CMIT, formaldehyde releaser preservatives have a certain irritation, long-term contact may produce adverse reactions, it is recommended that sensitive skin babies should try to avoid.
2, a wide variety of flavors, plant extract components are complex, there may be potential allergens, it is recommended to do a local smear test first, and then use a large area, sensitive and delicate skin babies should be carefully selected.
3. If the baby is allergic to milk protein, do not choose body milk with milk added.
4, the above "attention ingredients" may not necessarily cause skin irritation or harm, the specific impact, depending on the actual amount of addition, different skin types of babies will be different.
5. In general, the more "attention ingredients", the more it is recommended to choose carefully.
6. If your baby uses body milk containing "attention ingredients" without discomfort, do not worry, you can continue to use. However, out of the principle of caution, it is recommended to avoid these "attention ingredients" as much as possible for young babies, especially babies with sensitive skin, eczema or broken skin.
In general, the principle of infant skin care product selection is: try to choose a simple formula; for flavors, preservatives, colorants, adhere to less or no use; try to choose formula ingredients with a history of safe use; do not choose products that promote various "rapid and obvious" effects.
