The Meiji 6 coup d'état and the gathering of anti-government clans
The specific process of the meiji coup d'état in 2006 will not be repeated here. In simple terms, it was a power struggle between the Okubo Ritsuru and Kido Takayoshi factions who organized the Iwakura Envoys and the Remaining Factions such as Saigo Takamori, Itagaki Shōsuke, and Eto Shinpei.
As a result, Okubo, Kido, and others won, and the remaining factions such as Saigo, Itagaki, and Eto were expelled from the government. They were expelled from the government by satsuma soldiers who were allies of Saigo, as well as scholars from Tosa and Saga in the Meiji government. In "The Last Samurai", Moriji Tsuyoshimoto's resignation and running away are pinching him about this incident.
Of course, these people are not only old revolutionaries, but also the leading big brothers in their respective clans. Of course, it is impossible to run to the old forest in the deep mountains to engage in peach blossoms like MoriJi- Moreover, even if they wanted to, their little brother would not necessarily agree.
Therefore, after these people went to the wilderness, the first thing they did was to run back to the old nests in various places and connect with the local warriors to plan to do things.
However, after squeezing out the left-behind factions, Okubo and Kido, who had monopolized power, were not vegetarians.
Ōkubo, in particular, is a Richelieu-like figure that is extremely rare in Japan. Not only is the desire for power extremely strong and the will firm, but also firmly believes that what they are pursuing is absolute justice, and in order to achieve this absolute justice, they can do whatever it takes.
From the very beginning of Saigo, Edo, and Itagaki Shimono, Okubo had made up his mind to take this opportunity to eliminate the discontented clan and eliminate all possible threats to the Meiji government.
At that time, the main forces that posed a potential threat to the Meiji government were as follows.
The first is the Satsuma Clan, headed by Saigo Takamori. In addition to Saigo Takamori, there are more than forty Guards generals who resigned along with Saigo, including Shinohara Kunigan, Toshiaki Kirino, and Shinpachi Murata.
Based on a private school set up in Saigo, these people connected with Kagoshima Governor Ōyama Ryo, and basically achieved complete control over Kagoshima Prefecture. Whether it is military strength or political influence, it is the first of all anti-thieves. He was regarded as a natural ally by various forces opposing the Meiji government.

Saigo Takamori opposed the Meiji government's cutting of leeks
This is followed by the Saga Clan. In the chaos at the end of the curtain, in which the various clans were tearing each other apart, the Saga clan belonged to the Suo kuni clan, which did not stand until the last moment. However, although Saga is a dead house, it belongs to the technical house. Due to its proximity to Nagasaki, it is easier to access Western learning than each domain.
In terms of introducing Western studies to engage in foreign affairs, Saga Domain can be said to be the first of all the domains. Its strength is not inferior to that of Choshu and Satsuma. Therefore, although Saga only took sides at the last moment, he was given a large piece of cake and ruled the world with Choshu, Satsuma, and Tosa.
However, compared with Kagoshima, Saga's more embarrassing thing is that although the clans were all opposed to the Meiji government, they were divided into the Korean ExpeditionAryng Party headed by Eto Shinpei and the Bongshima Yoshikasa Party. In the eyes of the Worried Kuomintang, Eto Shinpei was originally a member of the hateful Meiji government, and only because of the failure of the political struggle did he run back to his hometown to recruit soldiers. So I didn't trust him at all. The differences between the two could not be bridged until the Saga clan was suppressed by the Meiji government.
There is also the Tosa clan, led by Itagaki Retreat. Since Itagaki had to take the parliamentary route and was once again recruited by the Meiji government, the Tosa clan was actually absent from the entire shinobi rebellion.

In addition to these big forces, there are also some small forces. For example, the Aforementioned Choshu Zunzhi faction led by former Senate Maehara Kazumaru, the Fukuoka Zunzhi faction led by Takebe Koshiro and Echihiko Shiro, and kaga Domain, which is now Shimada Ichiro of Ishikawa Prefecture, and so on. Although these forces all had the intention of opposing the Meiji government, they did not have enough strength or political influence, so they were waiting to see the wind and wait for the opportunity to bet.
Saga Rebellion
Faced with these anti-government forces, Okubo Ritsu decided to preemptively attack.
Saigo of Kagoshima did not dare to move for a while and a half, Itagaki was also a provocateur, and as for the Shoin Gate of Choshu and the Takaba Shusei of Fukuoka, their strength was too weak to fall into the eyes of his Okubo Kiyoshi. So take the Saga Clan, which looks powerful but has many internal contradictions.
On the day that Edo Shinpei meiji boarded the ship and returned to Nagasaki on January 13, 197, Okubo Ritsuru began a campaign against Saga.
In early February, Edo Shinpei arrived in Nagasaki, and before he reached Saga, Okubo ordered Kumamoto's commander, Tanigan, to suppress the Saga clan, and issued an official crusade against Saga on the fifth day of February. The Saga War was opened.
The whole course of the war is available on the Internet, and I will not repeat it here, but only mention a few interesting events.
The first is the righteous courage of the ally island of the worriers. Originally, the Saga Rebellion did not matter to him. He was ordered by the Minister of State, Mijō Shimi, to go to Saga to appease the disgruntled shinobi. But unexpectedly, Okubo Ritsu wanted to put the Saga Clan in a pot and sent Takatoshi Iwamura to stir up sticks, that is, the brothers who had forced the anti-Changgang rebellion before to go to Saga to be the prefectural order.
Shima happened to be in the same boat as Iwamura, and along the way he saw Iwamura wantonly bullying the Saga people. As a member of the Saga Clan, Shima may have been angry, and on the other hand, he may have discovered that Okubo was going to do something to the Saga Clan. So he originally went to appease the Saga Clan, but when he got off the ship, he jumped back and inexplicably became an ally of the Worry Nationalist Party. Afterwards, he was beheaded by Okubo Ritsu, and even Ōkubo's old lord, Kunjimazu Hisamitsu, interceded with him.
Another thing was that the Fukuoka Clan, led by Takebe and Echichi at the time, also wanted to take the opportunity to echo the Saga Clan uprising. However, Okubo Ritsuru probably guessed that the Fukuoka Shi clan was going to do something, so he sent someone to the Fukuoka Shi clan in advance to recruit soldiers who were fighting against Saga. Then, in order to prevent them from defecting before the battle, they were specially given unsatisfactory ammunition. So Takebe, Yuezhi and others were busy in vain.
Finally, after the war, in addition to the fact that Eto Shinpei was killed by the black hand of Okubo, more than 10,000 Saga shi people were involved, accounting for almost more than 80% of the total number of Saga shi clans. Although most of them were pardoned, fewer than two hundred people were actually killed. However, in this battle alone, the Saga Clan, as a force against the Meiji government, basically ceased to exist.
