On April 20 of that year, the Soviets shelled the encircled Berlin, which coincided with the birthday of the fascist leader Hitler, and the Battle of Berlin officially began. As the Soviets encircled Berlin at this time, and then used the artillery bombardment and air raids on the periphery to continuously weaken the German army inside the city, by the 25th of the month, the Soviet encirclement of Berlin had shrunk to the city of Berlin.

In the early morning of the 30th of the month, the Soviets finally invaded the center of Berlin, at which point the commander of the Berlin defenses, Weidling, reported to Hitler that Berlin could only hold out for a maximum of 24 hours, and that they could no longer stop the Soviets.

It was also on this day that Hitler and his new wife chose to commit suicide in fear of sin, and Berlin had become a ruin in ruins, once the capital of the "European Empire".

It was a few hours after Hitler committed suicide, the Soviets planted the victory flag on the dome of the Reichstag in Berlin, and the German generals began to negotiate surrender with the Soviets. On the first day of May, the German Army General Staff Officer Krebs walked out of the Imperial Office and raised a white flag to formally express his willingness to surrender to the Soviets.

After negotiations on surrender on 1 May, the next day the Commander of the Berlin Garrison, Weidling, formally surrendered to the Soviets with the remnants of his troops, and the Battle of Berlin came to an end. Throughout the campaign, Soviet casualties amounted to 360,000, while German casualties reached 320,000, with more than 480,000 German soldiers surrendering.
