Since its founding, it has been growing and expanded significantly during the Byzantine period. Centuries later, it was believed that, thanks to some astonishing advanced inventions, this hidden "city" was able to protect 20,000 inhabitants over a long period of time.

Deeper than any other underground complex in the area, it is equipped with thousands of shafts, ventilation and waterways to provide fresh air and water to all levels of the base. There are stables, churches, houses, storage rooms and, of course, a winery.

During the siege, the citizens did not get bored. The city is protected by huge stone wheel gates that can roll out of the entrance, essentially another wall.
