During the War of Resistance Against Japan, countless anti-Japanese heroes emerged in China, who threw their heads and spilled their blood for the victory of the country and made great sacrifices for this. So for these heroes, as Chinese, we should always remember them. With the stability of society, many people have forgotten the cruel war, but for those anti-Japanese veterans, the things that once happened in the war are deeply engraved in their hearts and will be unforgettable for a lifetime.

In 2010, volunteers who cared for veterans found an anti-Japanese veteran over 90 years old who had participated in the 8-year War of Resistance Against Japan and had been on the battlefield countless times. But he always had a heart disease in his heart, never mentioned to others, it turned out that when he joined the army at the age of 18, he was a deserter. The veteran, Xu Taikuan, was born in Tiantai County, Zhejiang Province. When he was 18 years old, he joined the anti-Japanese troops of the 88th Division with several young people in the village.
Soon after Xu Taikuan joined the army, the war of aggression against China broke out completely, and he immediately went to Shanghai with his troops to participate in the Battle of Songhu. At that time, the 88th Division was a famous anti-Japanese elite in China, and every soldier in it was experienced in hundreds of battles and brave and invincible, but excluded Xu Taikuan. At that time, he had just joined the army, was a new recruit, had no formal military training, and had no combat experience. Therefore, he was sent to work as a military logistics officer, specifically responsible for delivering water, food and ammunition to the anti-Japanese veterans on the front line.
This battle was fought very fiercely, our army suffered a full bombardment of the Japanese and Koso, and in three months, our army suffered more than 300,000 casualties, including Xu Taikuan's battalion, which also sacrificed 600 soldiers. The soldiers fighting on the front line were killed, and the logistics recruits in charge of transporting them in the rear had no combat experience and were at a loss, so they had to flee with the fleeing refugees, and Xu Taikuan was also in the ranks of these fleeing recruits.
He fled back to his hometown in Zhejiang and told his mother about his experience. When his mother listened, she did not blame her son for desertion, but she still induced her son to continue to join the army, kill the enemy bravely, and defend the motherland. After Xu Taikuan listened to his mother's words, he took the initiative to sign up for the Tiantai Anti-Japanese Volunteer Corps and continued to participate in the War of Resistance Against Japan. This time, his conviction was very firm, bent on defending his family and the country, and vowed never to back down.
Eventually, Xu Taikuan was incorporated into the 9th Company of the 3rd Battalion of the 293rd Regiment of the 98th Division, and this time he became a regular soldier. However, because of the urgency of the war at that time, he was sent to the battlefield before he could participate in training. The battle was in the De'an area of Jiangxi, and because Xu Taikuan had no combat experience, and could not even load the bullets, he still failed to fight in the end. It was not until after this battle that he trained with his troops in Nanchang for half a year.
After rigorous training, Xu Taikuan became a machine gunner and participated in many battles, with increasing combat experience. Especially in the counter-offensive battle of Dashaping in southern Hunan, Xu Taikuan's 3 battalion braved the multi-sided fire of the Japanese army to carry out a forced attack, the battle situation was extremely tragic, countless soldiers were heroically sacrificed, and Xu Taikuan's left eye was also permanently blinded by shrapnel from the Japanese army.
After the battle, the Ninth Combat Command awarded him a military merit award in recognition of his heroic efforts to save the country. After the victory of the War of Resistance, he left the battlefield and lived in seclusion in yamada, living a hard life with his family. And the award certificate was treasured by him as a treasure.
For his own experience in the War of Resistance, Xu Taikuan never took the initiative to mention it to others, and the experience of being a deserter made him always grumpy, and the award certificate was his greatest comfort. It wasn't until 2010, more than 70 years later, that he took out the military merit certificate, which had been blurred. At this time, people learned that this dying veteran had made such a great contribution to the country, and it was really awe-inspiring.
At this time, Xu Taikuan was also completely relieved of his "desertion" experience, after all, if he had not been a "deserter", where would there be honorary veterans who would defend their families and defend the country in the future?
