Quelled the bandit rebellion of Longtan Temple and destroyed the first bandit force in the Great Southwest

In the spring of 1950 after the founding of New China, sichuan, Yunnan, and Guizhou were liberated in the southwest of Our country, except for Tibet, and the central authorities originally decided to march into and liberate Tibet, but because of Chiang Kai-shek's conspiracy, agents lurking in various regions instigated numerous anti-communist organizations, and a large-scale bandit rebellion occurred in Sichuan Province.

Against such a background, the Southwest Military Region had to shift its work center to the "qing bandits."

Zhu Xiangyuan and his party were besieged

In February 1950, Zhu Xiangli, director of the Political Department of the 178th Division of the 60th Army of Erye, led his troops to reorganize the kuomintang rebel units at Shibantan, the new capital of Sichuan.

February 3,

Zhu Xiangli received a notice from the military region asking him to transfer his work tasks to Guo Tie, political commissar of the 536th Regiment of the 179th Division, and then returned to Beijing to report and prepare to go abroad to serve as a military attaché at the Chinese embassy.

After the handover of work, ready to go to Chengdu on the 5th, this time to go to Chengdu, it is inevitable to pass through the "Longtan Temple", at about 10:00 a.m., Zhu Xiangyuan came to the small stone bridge of a small river behind the Longtan Temple with his entourage, and he saw a bunker on the hill next to the road on the side of the bridge.

Because such bunkers are really common, Zhu Xiangyuan and his party did not think so.

Just as they were walking across the small bridge, bullets suddenly shot out from inside the bunker, and seeing the situation, the accompanying Deputy Platoon Commander Zhao pressed Zhu Xiangli to the ground.

Then he shouted to the bunker: Fellow, don't shoot, we are Chinese People's Liberation Army, passing by here.

Someone on the other side also shouted: No matter what army and team you have, this is the territory of our Longtan Temple, and we don't recognize anything else.

Deputy Platoon Commander Zhao continued to explain: We have an urgent task, and we must rush to Chengdu.

After the explanation was useless, the other side was still very arrogant, and said that if you want to pass, you have to surrender, Deputy Platoon Commander Zhao listened to the fire in his stomach and prepared to raise the submachine gun to shoot, but Zhu Xiangli grabbed his hand, and then Zhu Xiangli decided to send people to communicate, and two people were shot by the other side with guns.

After that, the two sides began to exchange fire, the scene was chaotic, for Zhu Xiangli and his party, as long as they crossed the small stone bridge, they could escape, but the other side was full of fire, and it was impossible to do it.

Deputy Platoon Commander Zhao saw the situation clearly and decided to cover Zhu Xiangli's breakthrough with fire, but it was useless, Zhu Xiangli divided the whole class into two groups, taking one group himself, and Deputy Platoon Commander Zhao took a group to cover each other, and then approached the bridgehead of the small bridge, but this time the plan was not successful.

By about 3 p.m., 19 people in the class, including Deputy Platoon Commander Zhao, had already died, two of whom were seriously injured, and Zhu Xiangli himself was also injured, the focus was that the bullets were about to run out, Zhu Xiangli and the remaining fighters, desperately resisted again, but this time they were directly caught by the bandits, and the leader of the bandits, Wu Jie, was ready to take Zhu Xiangli and others to "sacrifice the battle knife", Zhu Xiangli scolded: The People's Liberation Army will find you to settle the account.

But things didn't break the follow-up.

Before Zhu Xiangli and his party were arrested, Zhu Xiangli gave orders to the accompanying hygienists, under the cover of other fighters' firepower, to break out and then report the situation to the head of the Eighteenth Corps.

In the chaos, the hygienist took off his military uniform, escaped in the bamboo forest next to the river, and went straight to the Chengdu North Campus, where the Eighteenth Regiment was located, and he reported the situation to Zhou Shidi, commander of the Eighteenth Corps.

After that, Zhou Shidi decided to send Deng Shijun, chief of staff of the Western Sichuan Military Region, to lead a regiment and a guard company stationed in Chengdu to Longtan Temple to break the siege.

Deng Shijun led his troops to break the siege

Deng Shijun set off with his troops from 19:00 that night, marched for about two hours, and reached the hillside more than a dozen miles away from Longtan Temple, where you can clearly see the torches lit by bandits in Longtan Temple, and you can also hear the sound of people and gunshots, Deng Shijun was frightened by the morale of the bandits for a while, and decided to send a reconnaissance platoon to investigate the situation first, until late at night, none of the scouts sent out came back, Deng Shijun sent another platoon to reconnoiter, but did not return in the early morning of the next day.

Seeing that the sky was about to dawn, Deng Shijun hurriedly turned around, and in a hurry, he and ShangTan, the leader of the May Fourth O Regiment, made a consultation and decided to lead the second battalion to forcibly advance towards Longtan Temple, striving to break through to Longtan Temple, and find zhu Xiangli and his party who were besieged as soon as possible.

Shangtan led two companies to rush in front, followed by the other three companies, and soon Deng Shijun heard Shangtan's report on the walkie-talkie:

As soon as we reached a place more than a mile north of Longtan Temple, we were caught in a rain of bullets, and people from all sides shot at us.

Deng Shijun ordered Shangtan to use machine gun to strafe, but Shangtan had already given the order, but the machine gunner could not distinguish the location of the other side's fire point, so it could not shoot effectively, and at this time, more than 20 soldiers had been sacrificed.

The point is that there are also masses on the scene, so it is not clear which is the masses and which is the enemy, and the soldiers do not dare to shoot indiscriminately, for fear of hitting the masses by mistake.

After listening to Shangtan's report, Deng Shijun threw the microphone on the ground without a fight, and then ordered the artillery company to fire at the bandits' active ground, and the shells that had been prepared were shot out one by one, accurately hitting the bandits' activities, at this time the sky was already dawn, Deng Shijun ordered the May Fourth O Regiment and the guard company to march towards Longtan Temple.

Deng Shijun led the warriors to the outskirts of Longtan Temple, the bandits around them had begun to collapse, and then the troops led by Shangtan and the May Fourth O Regiment met, the combat effectiveness rose sharply, and the bandits saw the unfavorable situation and immediately scattered and fled for their lives.

When Deng Shijun arrived at Longtan Temple with his troops, he found the bodies of the soldiers sent to reconnoiter, and the corpses of bandits who had been killed by shells and bullets were everywhere.

Soon, they came to the place where Zhu Xiang left the troops to fight with the bandits, that is, the small stone bridge on the north side of Longtan Temple, but there was nothing here except dense eggshells and blood stains, and then Deng Shijun separated the troops and began to search for Longtan Temple and the surrounding bamboo forest, but there was no trace.

It was not until 9 days later that the remains of Zhu Xiangli and others were discovered, but they were already miserable.

Before the arrival of the rescue troops, Zhu Xiangli and other fighters had been injured by bandits, after the bandits dismembered their bodies, buried in the quagmire of the wheat field in front of the small stone bridge, after the remains were exhumed, it was found that some of the fighters had their eyes gouged out, some had their tongues cut off, and some were divided into several sections, these bandits simply had no humanity to speak of, and Zhu Xiangli was shot 24 times in the body, and the skin was also scalded by the bandits with boiling water.

Quelled the bandit rebellion of Longtan Temple and destroyed the first bandit force in the Great Southwest

The day after the Bandit Rebellion at Longtan Temple, the first meeting was held in Chongqing outside the Southwest Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, at which Deng Xiaoping said:

In order to make the suppression of bandits the central task in the southwest, it is necessary to implement the central authorities' phalanx of "military strikes," "political disintegration," and "mobilizing the masses in three combinations," and implement the policy of "combining suppression with leniency."

The bandits in Longtan Temple have also made the central government more powerful and accurate to target, and the bandits' innocent behavior has made the people unhappy, so the central government and the people will have one heart and will deal a heavy blow to the bandits.

After the bandits led by Wu Jie launched a riot in Longtan Temple, they were targeted by the Southwest Army, and after being severely attacked by Deng Shijun's reinforcements at Longtan Temple, Wu Jie fled into the mountains and lurked for a while, in April 1950, Wu Jie pulled up the bandits to launch a riot in 22 townships around Longtan Temple, this time also hit hard by the People's Liberation Army, in mid-May launched a third armed riot, once again targeted by the People's Liberation Army, Wu Jie was finally arrested by the People's Liberation Army, and in June 1950, he was executed at Longtan Temple.

After the bandits led by Wu Jie launched the Longtan Temple rebellion, they were attacked by the People's Liberation Army, and the second and third riots were actually Wu Jie's last struggle, because the morale of the People's Liberation Army in fighting the bandits was unprecedented, and the bandits were only "local" forces, and they were not at all inferior to the People's Liberation Army.

After Wu Jie was shot, it also marked the failure of the Longtan Temple rebellion, and the first bandit force in the Great Southwest was also eliminated.
