Scipio later grew tired of the suspicion and ungratefulness of the Romans, while at the same time disgusting his homeland. He hoped to be buried outside of Rome after his death.
Both Hannibal and his unique rival, Scipio, died in 183 BC, 12 years younger than Hannibal.
After two wars, Carthaginian forces withdrew from Europe and returned to their homeland, and 55 years later, Carthage was razed to the ground. The Romans became the hegemons of the north and south sides of the Mediterranean.
