At Facebook Connect at the end of October, the Unity Labs team showcased Unity Slices:Table, a proof-of-concept social mixed reality app that seamlessly connects local and remote people to a gamepad-centric shared experience.
Unity Slices: One of the goals of Table is to remove barriers between local and remote users by making any kind of player feel equal in the experience.
One of the developers, Provencher, wrote: "It took us a while to find a system that worked smoothly, but when we first jumped into a network session with an expressive avatar, we could see and hear another person tapping on our desk in a voice chat as if we were in the same room." Bringing this tangible part of our reality into a shared experience feels almost incredible.
The team is still working to perfect Unity Slices:Table, and experience it in app labs in 2022!
