IDC reports: PC monitor sales growth slows for the first time in two years

According to the analysis published by the research agency IDC, global PC display sales have slowed down for the first time after five consecutive quarters of increase, which is also the first time that sales have declined since the global epidemic (Q1 2020). Although this is not good news for manufacturers, it means that the price of monitors may fall back for some time to come.

IDC reports: PC monitor sales growth slows for the first time in two years

Consumer demand for PC monitors has been blocked from various countries, and the need to work from home has soared. Whether people buy additional desktops or laptops, many times in order to be more convenient and get a better experience, even notebook users will choose to buy a monitor to connect to the notebook. IDC's analysis also attributes the growth of PC monitors in the past two years to working from home.

As a result, as many countries ease lockdowns and more and more people return to the workplace, consumer demand for monitors has decreased. However, because of this, the demand for commercial displays has also increased, but sales have still declined. According to the IDC report, shipments of display manufacturers focusing on consumer-grade displays decreased by 12% year-on-year, while shipments of traditional OEM manufacturers also fell by 2% due to supply chain and other factors.

Due to the decline in overall demand, IDC believes that the price of display components will gradually stabilize in the future, and shipments will also be reduced accordingly, and PC display shipments will reach 143 million units in 2021, up 4.6% year-on-year. Looking ahead to 2022, IDC predicts that full-year shipment growth will continue to slow to 2%, after which PC display plutonium sales will return to relying on upgrading to drive.
