MERTENS: I want to stay at Napoli and if the club doesn't renew our contract we will break up peacefully

Napoli striker Mertens recently spoke to Sky Sports Italia, saying he did not know if the club would activate the renewal clause in his contract.

Mertens, 34, joined Napoli in the summer of 2013 and his current contract expires in June 2022.

Mertens said: "I have a renewal clause in my contract and we'll see what happens next. ”

Mertens has made 376 appearances for the team so far, scoring 141 goals, and is the top scorer in Napoli's history.

He said: "I have always said that I have been very happy for my nine years here, I have done everything for Naples, and Naples has given me everything. ”

'I want to continue to play for the team, but if there is no way to do it, then we will shake hands and say goodbye, I will be grateful for everything we have experienced together and leave with a smile.
