In May 2020, SAIC Shanghai Culture Square kicked off the reopening of the theater with the musical drama jin concert "May 29, 2020", becoming one of the earliest theaters in Shanghai to resume commercial performances after the outbreak of the epidemic.
Last night, the Cultural Square once again broke through the unknown, with the popular musicals with unique textures in the domestic literary and artistic performance market in the past year, came to the theater, walked into the century-old building complex, and injected the warm light of stage art into the winter streets where the cold wave came.
This time, based on the background setting and existing connotation of the four popular Chinese musical works, the Cultural Square takes "destiny" as the theme, selects four musicals of "Apollonia", "Southern Tang Dynasty Lord", "Fan Letter", "Romeo and Juliet", and recreates and reinterprets the four dimensions of family, life, era and love through the re-creation and reinterpretation of space, plot, music and performance, and reproduces the accumulated stories of change and invariance, existence and passing in the long river of time from the four dimensions of family, life, era and love.
In addition to the interpretation on the stage, in terms of the visual expression of the work, visual artist Pang Hao continued the creative concept and technique of "May 29, 2020", showing the traces of light in time that could not be perceived by the naked eye on the british triad architectural elements of the representative historical protection community of Lane 8 of the present tide, in order to echo the theme of "destiny".
In order to make "December 19, 2021" echo the environmental texture and historical origin of the performance space, stage design Xu Xiaohuan said: "Opposite the old building where we are performing is a few lawns and some ginkgo biloba fluttering in the wind and rain, if the grass and leaves that are born and die in spring and autumn can be seen as a moment, then the old building that has undergone spring and autumn changes is an eternity, if a person's life for a hundred years is a moment, the family affection, love that is continuously passed down from generation to generation, Ideals and responsibilities are an eternity. Therefore, with the assistance of all parties, this performance will not only have one stage, but multiple performance areas to wrap the audience in it, so that the audience can integrate into this dialogue that spans time, region and culture. ”
Coinciding with the concept of stage design, under the premise of minimizing the impact of the performance effect on the surrounding residential areas, the lighting design Kong Qingyao tries to reflect the differences and richness of the four chapters by means of mapping, lighting, image vision, etc., and guides the actors and the audience to travel through different time and space, and to feel the fate theme in different stories more immersively.
Huangpu went to Hongkou and crossed the river to see a play. Starting from "December 19, 2021", the Cultural Square brings together the two uniquenesses of the live performance experience and the emotional experience of the historic district in Lane 8 of the present tide, so that the musical theater can be outside the theater and the stage, with the alley block full of urban stories, memories, humanities, history, and fireworks as the stage, and work together to renew the traditional theater performance model, strengthen the content to empower the urban community, and jointly enhance the soft power of urban culture.
