The first-instance trial plan for the murder of Li Qianyue, a female college student in Nanjing, was temporarily cancelled.
On December 16, the afternoon before the official trial, Li Qianyue's father, Li Sheng, received a notice from the court that the trial could not be held as scheduled. According to the lawyer appointed by the Li family, the reason for the extension was the exclusion of illegal evidence proposed by the defense lawyer in the pretrial conference.

Because Li Qianyue was killed in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, the case was also accepted by the Xishuangbanna Intermediate People's Court. The Li family, who rushed from Jiangsu to Yunnan, was quite critical of this, and the court temporarily changed the time of the trial, causing great trouble to the victim's family, "We have a large family of more than a dozen people, three thousand kilometers from Jiangsu to Yunnan."
The Li family's lawyer told China News Weekly that they had consulted with the court on the timing of the trial and had not been informed of the specific content of the illegal evidence presented by the defense.
Murdered by her boyfriend
At this trial, Li Sheng has been looking forward to it for more than a year. He did not expect that his daughter's beloved boyfriend, Hong Qiao (pseudonym), had actually started a killing machine when he met his daughter for a month.
Li Qianyue, a native of Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, was only 21 years old. The incident dates back to July 9, 2020, when the surveillance camera of Li Qianyue's Nanjing residence captured the picture of her going out, which was very different from her usual style and carrying a shoulder bag.
The next day, Li Qianyue's family learned from Hong Qiao that Li Qianyue had disappeared due to a quarrel between the two and took away his 50,000 yuan.
Li Sheng immediately rushed to Nanjing. The next day, Hong Qiao took him to the mobile phone store and said that he could find someone through location, but then he couldn't do it. After that, Hong Qiao also accompanied them to call the police.
On July 17, Li Sheng learned from police that Li Qianyue had flown to Yunnan and disappeared at a checkpoint in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture. At the border police station, a public security officer revealed to Li Sheng that Hong Qiao may be suspected of committing a crime. In the process of local investigation, Li Sheng was once only a few hundred meters away from the place where his daughter was killed.
Mr. Li said he had never associated Mr. Hong with the killer, but he still tentatively called mr. Mr. Hong. The recordings he provided showed Hong Qiao leading him to the border to look for him again, and hinted that Li Qianyue might have smuggled in with someone else.
On August 4, the 25th day of Li Qianyue's disappearance, Li Sheng waited for the news of his daughter's death. According to the report of the Menghai County Public Security Bureau, it was preliminarily ascertained that the criminal suspects Hong Qiao conspired with Zhang Mouguang and Cao Mouqing in Nanjing, and Zhang Mouguang and Cao Mouqing went to Menghai County to lure Li Mouyue to the mountain forest on the outskirts of the county on the evening of July 9 to kill and bury his body.
"I also slandered my daughter for taking his money, I didn't expect a 20-year-old child to be so thoughtful, and I deliberately asked the media not to bother this child." Li Sheng said.
The suspect once called himself a "special forces soldier"
Six days before she was killed, Li Qianyue had just received her college diploma. China News Weekly learned from a close friend of Li Qianyue that Li Qianyue studied flight attendants, but in order to maintain a relationship with Hong Qiao, she still worked as a part-time clerk in a clothing store after graduation.
In addition, she is also preparing for the self-examination. If nothing else, she will take the Jiangsu Provincial Self-Study Exam on August 1 of that year.
Li Sheng told China News Weekly that Li Qianyue was the only daughter in the family. During the Dragon Boat Festival that year, she took Hong Qiao home to meet her parents, and the two met on the subway.
After the incident, Li Sheng learned that in the process of getting along with Li Qianyue, Hong Qiao pretended to be a "member of the state security department" and used the excuse of "endangering national security" to instruct Zhang Mouguang and Cao Mouqing to trick Li Qianyue into killing in Yunnan, and in the first month of their acquaintance, Hong Qiao had the idea of killing his daughter.
According to the insiders afterwards, Hong Qiao's identity also includes "special soldiers" and "war reporters". But in fact, Hong Qiao was an unemployed person at the time of the incident.
China News Weekly noted that Hong Qiao graduated from Jiangsu Maritime Vocational and Technical College. According to a number of netizens, Hong Qiao's father is a director of the Nanjing Bureau of Justice. A staff member of the Nanjing Bureau of Justice confirmed the matter to China News Weekly, saying that the bureau had paid attention to public opinion and attached great importance to the matter, and that Hong's father was still performing his duties normally.
According to insiders, in early July 2020, Hong Qiao invited Zhang Mouguang and Cao Mouqing to help kill Li Qianyue and formulated details of booby traps. The three prepared tools for the crime, such as cameras, camouflage training suits, hand lanterns, headlamps, camouflage nets and monocular night vision goggles, and practiced the crime method many times.
The above-mentioned insider disclosed that Hong Qiao confessed that he had a conflict in the process of the two people's love interaction, which gave rise to the above thoughts.
On July 6 of that year, Hong Qiao lured Li Qianyue to Menghai County. Subsequently, Hong Qiao provided funds to Zhang and Cao, allowing them to book tickets in advance and prepare for the crime.
At about 8 p.m. the next day, after Li Qianyue landed, the two guided her to Pu'er Tea Park. Subsequently, Zhang Mouguang and Cao Mouqing broke Li Qianyue's cervical vertebrae with their bare hands according to the steps of the pre-rehearsal, causing Li Qianyue to die on the spot, and the two carried the body into the pit for burial.
At the time of the crime, Hong was 24 years old. Zhang Mouguang is 21 years old and unemployed. Cao Mouqing is 20 years old and is an auxiliary police officer of a substation in Nanjing.
After the incident, Li Sheng saw from the little red book software in his daughter's mobile phone that Li Qianyue had collected a number of travel guides about Menghai County, Yunnan.
The trial was provisionally postponed
The days of waiting for the trial are undoubtedly torturous. After her daughter was killed, her wife also fell into depression. In the past, Li Sheng, a grassroots worker, rarely interacted with social media, but for more than a year, he learned to tweet and use Vibrato... "After this incident, I learned everything."
On December 7 this year, Li Sheng received a phone call from judge surnamed Cai, the presiding judge of the case at the Xishuangbanna Intermediate People's Court, saying that the case would be heard on the morning of December 17. According to the audio recording provided by Li Sheng, the above-mentioned judge also said that Xishuangbanna was strict in epidemic prevention and instructed it to handle epidemic prevention procedures.
On December 12, Li Sheng and his family rushed from Jiangsu to Yunnan to prepare for the trial. Li Sheng said that although the family had been informed of the hearing notice, the court had not formally issued the notice of the hearing for a long time.
From December 14 to 16, Li Sheng would go to the Xishuangbanna Intermediate Court every day to inquire about the notice, but the staff responded that "the leader is not there" and "the relevant matters are still being decided".
At about 4 p.m. on the 16th, Li Sheng learned from a special committee member of the Middle Court that the next day's trial was temporarily cancelled, and the extension time had not yet been determined.
Li Qianyue's lawyer told China News Weekly that the trial was postponed because at the pretrial conference on December 13, the defense lawyers proposed illegal evidence exclusions.
Illegal evidence, in layman's terms, refers to evidence collected and obtained by reconnaissance organs through illegal means. A search by China News Weekly found that, according to article 25 of the Provisions of the Five Departments on Several Issues Concerning the Strict Exclusion of Illegal Evidence in the Handling of Criminal Cases, if the defendant and his defender apply for the exclusion of illegal evidence before the trial and provide relevant clues or materials in accordance with the provisions of law, the people's court shall convene a pretrial conference. The people's procuratorate shall make targeted explanations of the legality of evidence collection through methods such as presenting relevant evidentiary materials.
However, according to the relevant provisions of the Criminal Procedure Law, the notice of the hearing shall be served no later than three days before the opening of the hearing. In response to the above situation, China News Weekly went to the Xishuangbanna Intermediate Court to verify, but a staff member said that he would not accept interviews.
On December 17, the original first-instance trial was changed to the second pre-trial conference.

In addition, Li Sheng said that in order for the murderer to be severely punished, the Li family had planned to give up civil compensation. However, they learned from the court that in the absence of an attached civil action, the victim's family and civil lawyer had no say in the trial. In addition, the victim's family and lawyer were not allowed to participate in the first pre-trial conference.
At noon on December 17, Li Sheng was provisionally notified by the court that he and his lawyer were allowed to participate in the second pre-trial conference of the case in the afternoon.
According to the lawyer entrusted by the Li family, due to his conflict in time at the pretrial conference on the afternoon of the same day, the victim's family applied to the court for the trial no earlier than December 26, and the family should be notified at least five days in advance of the trial. In addition, the pre-trial conference between the accused and the victim was held separately and the content of the illegal evidence referred to by the defendant's defence counsel was not informed.
Li Sheng said that because the trial time is still uncertain, they will return to Jiangsu first, and li Qianyue's body is still in a hospital in Menghai County, "originally planning to take her home after the first trial is over."
