The Q3 2021 Technology Work Report released by recruitment platform Dice shows that Philadelphia's work on diversity has received a lot of attention from the industry. The PHL: Most Diverse Tech Hub project aims to improve the technical skills of the future talent pipeline, especially for those of color who are interested in going deeper into the tech career. Dice said the $500,000 initiative "came at the right time." Because the industry needs to focus more on diversity, equity and inclusion in order to move forward better.

As a technology hub, Philadelphia has been famous for a long time. In Dice's new report, companies such as Comcast, Accenture and Deloitte are among the large, representative regional employers.

Second, the report notes that there are many local universities that nurture and select technical talents, and the affordability of the cost of living. It can be seen that the average technical salary in the region is $91,670, and the median house price is about $330,000.

Between Q2 and Q3 2021, recruitment for tech jobs in Philadelphia increased by about 10 percent. Among the top 50 tech cities, Philadelphia moved slightly from 19th in Q2 to 17th in Q3.

Meanwhile, the District of Columbia (DC) dropped to 8th place, Pittsburgh slid to 31st place, and Baltimore fell to 42nd place.

The top technical positions required in Philadelphia include software development/ engineer, project manager, network engineering / architect, network security engineer, business analyst, IT project manager, systems engineer / project manager and other positions.

Among the top tech employers, we've seen organizations like Deloitte, Comcast, Accenture, VMware, Pennsylvania/Penn Medicine, IBM, and Wells Fargo again.

Technical talent needs in the top 10 categories

In addition, Dice notes that after early 2021 growth, quarter-on-quarter growth began to flatten in the 2-3 quarters, meaning that continued high demand for technologists across nearly every industry/vertical may have stabilized.

This stabilization could be a good sign of an economic recovery that is expected to return to pre-pandemic growth levels some time in the future.

Previously, Dice CEO Art Zelie said in a Q2 report: "We are in one of the hottest tech job market periods since the internet era".

The Q3 job postings show that across the U.S., in addition to skills such as SQL, Java, Python, Linux, etc., companies are also looking for technical talents who cover more areas and have a deep understanding of core concepts such as software development/project management.
