The Guangxu Emperor died at the age of 37, extremely scavengery. And the cause of death is related to Cixi.
Guangxu's death, best known, was tantamount to being completely killed by Cixi. What about the cause of Death of emperor Tongzhi? But it has always belonged to the "gossip state". The most common theory is that after the Tongzhi Emperor became emperor, because the power was controlled by his mother Cixi, he became a puppet, and when he was extremely depressed, he went to the Bada Hutong to entertain, and as a result, he became a dirty disease and died.

First, from Qi Xiang to Tongzhi
Before the death of the Xianfeng Emperor, he arranged eight auxiliary ministers for the Tongzhi Emperor, namely: Zaiyuan the Prince of Qia, Duanhua the Prince of Zheng, Shangshu Sushun of the Affiliated University, Jing Shou, Mu Yin, Kuang Yuan, Du Han, and Jiao Youying. Among them, the main power was concentrated in the hands of Su Shun.

Nature was regarded as a thorn in the side of the Eight Banners aristocracy. Therefore, he was later killed by Cixi, which opened the curtain of the empress dowager of the two palaces. The era name was also changed from the original "Qi Xiang" to "Tongzhi".
This is the origin of "Tongzhi". So-called: the two empresses rule together. But there was nothing to do with the Tongzhi Emperor! The Tongzhi Emperor was a 6-year-old emperor who served for a total of 13 years, but had 12 years as a puppet! In this regard, the Tongzhi Emperor rebelled when he grew up, but Cixi did not let go at all, and vetoed it on the grounds that "the classics have not yet been completed".
What is "incomplete canon"? To put it in layman's terms is "you failed the exam". This pair of Tongzhi Emperors, who have already understood things, can be imagined.
In that year, kangxi risked getting rid of Aobai in order to pro-government. The Tongzhi Emperor did not have the courage of Kangxi, and Cixi was his mother-in-law, and this kind of bitterness was actually very devastating.
This is one of the reasons why the Tongzhi Emperor will run to the Eight Hutongs to play. He was very depressed, but he couldn't vent it, so he had to choose to escape. In the end, in the form of deviance, it was just a denial, even a mockery, of oneself, of the imperial power, and of the old mother Cixi.
Second, take advantage of his illness and ask him for his life
In the records of Weng Tonggong, the cause of death of the Tongzhi Emperor is smallpox! But smallpox is not a 100% death. In Puyi's "The First Half of My Life", the truth of the cause of death of the Tongzhi Emperor was revealed, "stimulated, so that the lesion of "pox introspection" occurred, so that the rescue died without surgery."
Who stimulates it? It is Cixi! The matter also began when the Tongzhi Emperor was 17 years old, and this year the Tongzhi Emperor wanted to marry and elect an empress. Cixi's favorite empress is the Fucha clan, while Ci'an is interested in the Arut clan. Tongzhi sided with Ci'an, so in the end the empress was the Arut clan.
This incident made Cixi very angry, and her son did not even have a heart with himself! Naturally, she had a deeper hatred for the Arut clan. After Tong was cured of his illness, the Arut clan went to visit the Yangxin Temple, and the two little ones began to gossip.
Arut cried and told Tongzhi: Cixi always scolded herself, hated me very much, and so on.
Tongzhi rushed to comfort: You endure first, and we will have a day to emerge later.
As soon as the words fell, Cixi burst out in anger. It turned out that Cixi had placed a lot of eyeliner around Emperor Tongzhi, and as soon as the Arut clan came, Cixi learned the news. So he personally ran and hid outside the East Warm Pavilion of the Yangxin Hall to eavesdrop.
Cixi "grabbed the empress's (Alut's) hair, raised her hand and beat her, and told the inner court to prepare a stick to serve", and the Tongzhi Emperor was frightened by all this in front of him. This led to the occurrence of a "pox inverted" lesion and eventually died.
Therefore, the exact cause of death of the Tongzhi Emperor was not because he was walking in the Eight Great Hutongs and getting dirty diseases. It was not that he died of smallpox, but that he was scared to death by Cixi. Of course, it can also be said that because Cixi was too vicious and full of power desires, he first deprived Tongzhi of his imperial power, and then took advantage of Tongzhi's illness to ask him for his life--he was born to let Tongzhi die.
