Qing Dynasty painting horse master Lang Shining's "Ten Juntu" appreciation

This set of "Ten Juntu" was painted in the eighth year of Qianlong (1743), and the other set was painted in the thirteenth year (1748) by Lang Shi only three of them. These famous horses dedicated by the noble princes, county kings, and belles of the Various Tribes of Xinjiang and Mongolia are Qianlong's mounts and witnesses to his lifelong martial arts. The "Ten Juntu" began in March and was completed at the end of October, with a total of ten axes, which were arranged by Zhang Zhao and others according to the month, rated as superior, and specially painted with black and red lacquer and golden dragon boxes for storage. Volume XIII of the "First Collection of Imperial Poems of Emperor Gaozong of the Qing Dynasty" has the "Ten Juntu Songs", and the chronology is the same as this axis, and the content of the inscription is also consistent. Lang Shi is the best horse painter in the early Qing Dynasty, and he uses Western oil painting techniques (such as focus perspective, changes in shades of tone) to truly and vividly show the volume of horses. Different from Chinese painting, which uses lines to shape the appearance of horses, and the texture of fur and tail mane with broken brushstrokes, the wrinkles of the neck and leg muscles, as well as the tendons and blood vessels are expressed. In the traditional Chinese painting method, Lang's western light and shadow perspective method is added, and the colors are colorful. The size of the horse is similar to that of the real horse, which is vivid and realistic.
