On December 9, Disney announced that the next animated film will be titled Strange World, an action-adventure film scheduled to be released around Thanksgiving in 2022.
Warner Bros. also shared some of the film's concept drawings and plot, but did not disclose the voice actors. Centered around the legendary Family of Clades explorers, World of Strangeness tells the story of their internal differences that threaten a crucial expedition. Disney Animation said on the Instagram app that "Strange World" is a deep dive into an unknown and dangerous place, where fantasy creatures are waiting.
Don Hall, who has worked on Big Hero 6 and Raya and the Last Dragon, will direct World of Wonders.
He said the film was a tribute to pulp magazines. Pulp Magazine was a popular novel printed on cheap wood pulp paper in the first half of the 20th century. Growing up, he enjoyed reading old pulp magazines about a group of explorers who had discovered a hidden world and ancient creatures. This is a huge source of inspiration for Strange World.
Qui Nguyen, who co-wrote Dragon Quest with Hall, will return and co-write the screenplay for Strange World. Roy Conli, who directed The Incredibles and Tangled, served as a producer.
While the release date may change, World of Wonders is scheduled to be released on the same day as the semi-autobiographical film The Fabelmans. "Dream House" is about director Steven Spielberg's various upbringings in Arizona, and I'm also looking forward to it!
