On December 16, the world's latest generation of "Changheng Series" 174,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier jointly developed by Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Group Co., Ltd. and GTT, was awarded the General Recognition of Ship Type Design (GDA) by four internationally renowned classification societies, including American Classification Society (ABS), French Classification Society (BV), British Lloyd's Register (LR) and DNV. Certificates such as Advance Recognition of Entry (PCA). This is the latest achievement and the best annotation of the friendly cooperation between the two sides in the past 20 years, and it is also a major event in the history of the development of LNG ships in the world, and it is also an important milestone in the process of China's R&D and design of LNG ships from running and running to leading the process, marking that this set of the latest design concept, the best technical equipment, the strongest environmental performance, the most forward-looking "Changheng series" ship type has finally turned out, reaching a state that can be built in real ships, providing a more efficient and environmentally friendly LNG transportation innovation program for global LNG trade.

LNG boats have been described as "super refrigerated vehicles" at sea. In order to transport as much natural gas as possible, humans reduce its temperature to minus 163 degrees Celsius, compress it 600 times to become liquefied natural gas (LNG), making it more convenient for high-capacity, high-efficiency, long-distance transportation, LNG ships came into being.

LNG is at greater risk during transportation and will cause an explosion if it leaks. To this end, LNG ships are internationally recognized as high-tech, high-difficulty, high-value-added "three high" ships, together with luxury cruise ships, aircraft carriers are known as the "crown jewels" of the shipbuilding industry. At present, only a few shipyards in the world have the ability to build, and Hudong Zhonghua is the only base in China that can develop, design and build such high-end products.

In 2001, Hudong Zhonghua joined hands with GTT to carry out technical cooperation. Subsequently, the first NO96 simulation module built by Hudong Zhonghua was successful, and Chinese shipbuilders for the first time converted the LNG ship enclosure system from abstract drawings to real ship construction, overcoming the biggest technical difficulties of LNG ships. In 2002, the two sides signed a technical cooperation agreement, which opened a new journey of joint design of LNG ships.

Nowadays, Hudong Zhonghua has become the "chain leader" of China's LNG industry chain, and GTT has also become the global leader in low temperature storage and transportation technology. The two sides have been watching each other for 20 years, and they have been in the same boat through thick and thin, bearing fruitful results and becoming a model for successful cooperation between Chinese and French enterprises.

The fifth generation of "Changheng series" LNG ships jointly developed by Hudong Zhonghua and GTT is the essence of the design of the first four generations of LNG ships, developed in accordance with the latest design concepts of the world, using a new optimized main scale, its width is 46.4 meters, the depth is 26.25 meters, and the total length is 299 meters. It adopts the latest generation of double-stern fin linear type and is equipped with a number of low-carbon energy-saving technologies. In the future, Hudong Zhonghua will work closely with GTT and all parties with a more open attitude, more innovative concepts and clearer goals, keeping the original, keeping the truth and innovating, and keeping the hope and forging ahead, leading China's shipbuilding industry to firmly occupy the commanding heights of the innovation and development of the LNG industry, and writing a new chapter for China to achieve energy transportation safety and "double carbon" goals.
