Born on 21 June 1899 in a small farmhouse near Nottingham, England, Dorothy Nancy Merina Allen Chandler grew up working as a maid in a nursing home near Burton-upon-Trent, so she was often considered a nurse by surrounding residents. Later, Dorothy somehow obtained permission to run a nursing home for the elderly, and it was here that she committed a series of crimes.

In 1925, Dorothy married her boyfriend Thomas Willoughby Leach, a man she had met while working as a maid. Leach was a few years older than Dorothy, but he was dying of throat cancer, so their marriage lasted only 8 years. Eight years later, Leach died of cancer, and before he died, he gave everything to Dorothy— including the two of them' three children.

It is worth mentioning that during these 8 years, Dorothy has been imprisoned for fraud and theft many times. And before Leach's death, Dorothy developed an affair with an officer named Ronald Joseph Sullivan. Immediately after Leach's death, Dorothy and Sullivan moved into his house at 32 Devon Road, Nottingham, and the two were not married, but they had two children.

After moving in together, Dorothy and Sullivan decided to vacate some rooms and open a nursing home in the home so that Dorothy could continue her nursing work and earn an income while caring for the children. Dorothy cleverly deceived everyone and made people think she was a nurse, so she ended up getting approval from the local agency.

So the nursing home opened, and soon dorothy welcomed some patients. None of these patients knew that Dorothy was practicing medicine without a license.

It wasn't long before something went wrong in the nursing home—an old man named Mrs. Campo had died, and before Mrs. Campo's death, Dorothy had claimed to give her more morphine.

In 1935, Dorothy managed to get another female patient named Ida Baguli to amend her will. Previously, Ada had stated in her will that all the property after her death was inherited by her mother, and if her mother died, then the inheritance would belong to her other two cousins. But under Dorothy's influence, the names of the two cousins were replaced by dorothy and Sullivan's.

Just a week after the change of will, Louisa Baguli, who was living in a nursing home with her daughter Ida, mysteriously passed away.

On September 10 of the same year, Ida's old friend Alice Briggs visited Ida at the sanatorium. The two got along very happily, and Ida planned to leave the sanatorium and stay outside for a few days. But the next day, Ida died.

Dorothy sent Ida to the crematorium, which required the joint signature of two doctors, so Dorothy needed to get approval from the person in charge, Cyril Banks. But Banksy, who had always been suspicious of Dorothy, read the documents carefully and found that the letter that Ida had left asking her to be cremated was different from her previous writing.

Banks reported his suspicions to the coroner, who performed an autopsy and found that Ida had died from a large amount of morphine.

In this way, the authorities followed the vine and investigated everything Dorothy had done.

Later, Dorothy was sentenced to death by a court. By the time she was executed, word had spread locally. But when it was learned that she was a nursing mother with a 3-month-old baby and four other children, people petitioned for her to stop the execution and release her. About 10,000 protesters shouted "let her go" at the site of her execution, but the protests had no effect, and Dorothy died under the gallows.
