According to the rules, the eligibility for the Winter Olympic Team Competition is determined according to the sum of the points of the best results of each country in the 4 individual events, and the top ten teams are eligible, and each country should participate in at least 3 events. Teams qualifying for the Winter Olympics are Russia, the United States, Canada, Japan, China, Italy, Germany, Georgia, the Czech Republic and Ukraine.

Of the teams that qualify, Russia topped the list with 5,947 points, while the United States, which ranked second, had 5,209 points. Canada and Japan ranked third and fourth with scores of 3949 and 3830 respectively, while china, which ranked fifth, had a score of 2809 points.

The Figure Skating Team Event was included in the official competition at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and consists of four events: men's singles, women's singles, pairs and ice dance, and each team consists of 1 women's single skater, 1 men's single skater, 1 pair of pairs of skaters and 1 pair of ice dancers who have won the individual competition. In the competition, each event first competes in a short program, and the top five teams can enter the free skating event and finally decide the champion. At the Sochi Winter Olympics, the Chinese team only ranked seventh in the team competition and did not qualify. At the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the Chinese team sent Yan Han, Li Xiangning, Yu Xiaoyu/Zhang Hao and Wang Shiyue/Liu Xinyu to participate in the team competition. In the men's singles and pair skating competitions, the Chinese team ranked seventh and fifth respectively, accumulating a total of 10 points. In the women's singles and ice dance events, Wang Shiyue/ Liu Xinyu ranked seventh with 56.98 points, and four points for the Chinese team. Li Xiangning scored 58.62 points in the women's singles short program, also ranking seventh, with 4 points. However, the Chinese team, which eventually ranked sixth, did not qualify for the second stage of the team competition.
