Taipei, 16 Dec (Xinhua) -- On 16 December, the Internet + Development Association on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the Association of Taiwan-funded Enterprises in Beijing jointly held an online symposium on "Changes and Trends in the Development of Cross-Strait E-commerce in the Post-epidemic Era", in which experts and scholars discussed how e-commerce on both sides of the strait can better help each other, complement each other's advantages, and achieve common high-quality development in the post-epidemic era.

Wang Qizhong, chairman of the Cross-Strait Internet + Development Association, said in his speech that the mainland has a good e-commerce development environment, especially with the full support of the industry, government and academic circles, the mainland has become one of the most successful places in the development of e-commerce in the world, and it is worth learning and reference in many fields in Taiwan.

Xu Tao, executive vice president of the Beijing Association of Taiwan-funded Enterprises, mentioned in his speech that the new crown epidemic has profoundly changed people's production and lifestyle. Before the pandemic, business and consumer behavior had gradually shifted from offline to online, and the pandemic has accelerated and intensified this shift.

"Especially with the advent of a new round of scientific and technological and industrial revolution, the application of high and new technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G, and big data has laid a solid technical foundation for the rapid development and rise of e-commerce, and the rise of a large number of new e-commerce models such as live streaming with goods and net red e-commerce has brought unprecedented development opportunities for e-commerce companies." Xu Tao said.

"Live broadcasting has become a 'preferential option' for the development of domestic and foreign trade." Hao Jianbin, a senior expert at Alibaba Group's Ali Research Institute, said at the symposium that the yiwu live broadcasting economy of Yiwu, the "capital of small commodities" in the mainland, broke out against the trend, and last year, 180,000 live broadcasts were carried with goods, with sales of more than 20.7 billion yuan.

According to Hao Jianbin, since the epidemic, Alibaba International has launched an e-commerce model of "online exhibition", with the help of a large number of live broadcasts, short videos, 3D exhibitions and other technologies, so that cross-border e-commerce has changed from "face-to-face" to "screen-to-screen" in the past. From June 8 to 28, 2020 alone, Alibaba hosted more than 8,000 cross-border live broadcasts, with active buyers increasing by more than 200% year-on-year.

Chen Pishu, founder and CEO of AsiaKOL Asia Talent from Taiwan, mentioned that even under the epidemic, the exchanges between the people on both sides of the strait in the field of e-commerce are still very warm, and the epidemic has made more people accept online shopping more quickly, and e-commerce should still develop in a more vigorous direction after the epidemic.

"Shopping festivals such as 'Double 11' and 'Double 12' held by e-commerce platforms such as Taobao in the mainland every year have great participation of the People of Taiwan. There are many small and medium-sized enterprises in Taiwan, and there is a great demand for outward development, and the mainland's e-commerce platform provides many Taiwan merchants with the opportunity to participate. Chen Pishu said.
