When he was young, his father died in a poor family and depended on his mother for his life. And his mother has the style of a martyr, and can still practice martial arts at the age of seventy, so Nie Shicheng has also been good at fighting and fighting since he was a child, and then joined the army and began a forty-year career in horse fighting. He successively participated in the suppression of twisting, the Sino-French War, the Sino-Japanese War, and the Gengzi Revolution, and made outstanding achievements in battle, and in the defense of Tianjin in the change of Gengzi, he was killed by the middle artillery. The Qing court posthumously awarded him the title of Prince Shaobao (太子少保) and his courtesy name was Zhongjie.
He was loyal and fought in several wars against foreign enemies, notably in July 1894 against the Wokou, when the Japanese army secretly attacked the Sunken Chinese troop carrier Gaosheng on the sea off Toshima Island outside the Asan Pass, while sending troops from Seoul to attack Asan. Nie Shicheng suggested that Ye Zhichao take the initiative to withdraw his troops to Gongzhou and Chenghuan in light of the situation that the enemy was outnumbered and the terrain was unfavorable for defense, and use Chenghuan's favorable terrain to ambush the Japanese army. At that time, he became famous in the first battle and won one of the few victories of the Qing army.
Nie Shicheng's life was the life of a hero, he died on the battlefield, died in the Tianjin defense war, in the defense war he unfortunately was killed by a shell, and before he died, he also left a will: "All my descendants cannot go abroad, and they cannot work for foreigners." After Nie Shicheng's death, the tuanmin still wanted to insult his body and pick up his clothes, and finally the Germans arrived, out of respect, Nie Shicheng gave a red carpet wrapped and returned to the Qing government.
