"For victory, shoot at me!" The story of Wang Cheng in the movie "Heroes and Children" is widely circulated, and one of the prototypes of the hero Wang Cheng is Zhao Xianyou, a special meritorious hero of the Volunteer Army.
In October 1952, the 65th Army of the Volunteer Army held a celebration meeting after defending Kaesong's victory in the counterattack. Later, Ba Jin and others went to the 582nd Regiment to interview, learned that Zhao Xianyou fought bravely until the last moment, grabbed the news machine, and shouted to the command post, "Regiment Commander, the enemy is coming, open fire and fight", and died with the enemy. Later, Ba Jin wrote a novel "Reunion" based on martyrs such as Zhao Xianyou and correspondent Liu Shunwu. In 1964, Changchun Film Studio adapted the novel "Reunion" into the movie "Heroes and Children".
Now, decades later, Wang Cheng's image has not faded with time, but has become a model for learning from generation to generation. Zhao Xianyou has also become a martyr revered by the people of Shenyang, and the Second Primary School of Shenyang Railway (now Bailongjiang Primary School in Huanggu District) has a Zhao Xianyou class, and every year on the Qingming Festival, they will sweep the tomb of Zhao Xianyou and hold a flag handover ceremony, so that the spirit of martyrdom will be widely passed on among students.
Highland 67 stands still
The Volunteers launched a counterattack in the autumn of 1952, and in the battle to defend Kaesong, the battle for 67 highlands was the most intense battle. The 67 Highlands are less than 1 square kilometer, only 67 meters above sea level, and only 5 kilometers away from Panmunjom, which was originally an important support point for the enemy on the right wing of the Kaesong front line and on the east bank of the Shachuan River. In order to teach the indomitable American army, the 65th Volunteer Army seized 67 Highlands from the enemy.
On October 3, 1952, Zhao Xianyou's 6th Company was ordered to hold the 67th Heights. Zhao Xianyou's instructor and deputy company commander were wounded that day and then came to the position, in order to reduce casualties, he divided 20 fighters into 3 combat groups, entered the bunker to hide, and added fortifications. On the same day, the enemy attacked the 67 heights seven times with two platoons and one company, and the 6 companies gave a hard blow, and the enemy retreated from the position with a disastrous defeat. In order to kill and injure the enemy more, near dawn, Zhao Xianyou commanded the soldiers to bury the explosive canisters in the front of the position, use the telephone line as a line of fire, and use the local mine. Unsurprisingly, after dawn, the enemy concentrated its forces and pounced on the heights. When the enemy entered the mine-laying area, Zhao Xian gave an order, and the explosion of the explosive canister was earth-shattering, and the enemy was blown to the ground and retreated. The enemy attacked 4 times in a row, all of which were repulsed, leaving piles of corpses.
On October 4, the enemy took turns bombing Hill 67 with artillery and 4 aircraft, and groups of enemy soldiers attacked again. While commanding the battle, Zhao Xian used the radio to instruct my artillerymen to shoot targets, and fired shells that fell into the enemy group, causing the enemy to lose his soul and fear. In order to hold his position, he did not die and was beaten, and in the evening he also organized two combat groups to take the initiative to attack and make a counter-charge, killing the enemy's ghosts and howling, and fleeing in defeat.
After two days and two nights of fierce fighting, the small hill of Highland 67 was cut down by the enemy's aircraft cannons by more than 1 meter thick and remained unmoving.
"The enemy is coming up, let's shoot!"
On 5 October, the enemy, with a battalion strength, rushed to the position under the cover of 8 aircraft, 12 tanks and 3 Spitfire tanks. When only Zhao Xianyou and the correspondent Liu Shunwu were left on the position, Zhao Xianyou ordered Liu Shunwu to report to the regimental command post with a radio that the enemy had rushed to our position and demanded that the regimental artillery directly "fire at our position."
At that time, the atmosphere in the regimental command post was extremely tense, and the heroic spirit of Zhao Xianyou and Liu Shunwu firing at me for victory greatly shocked the hearts of the regimental commander Zhang Zhenchuan and other chiefs. Just as the regimental commander hesitated, Zhao Xian's hoarse but firm voice came from the radio: "Commander, the enemy is coming up, let's fire and fire!" ”
Soon, after a rush of grenades and submachine guns in the direction of the concealment of the 6th Company, the position fell silent. Zhao Xianyou fulfilled his oath before going to the position: "We resolutely hold the position, and the people in the position will never take a step back!" The regimental commander Zhang Zhenchuan turned his heart sideways and ordered the artillery to fire at the enemy on the position. After our army recaptured its position, it was found that Zhao Xianyou and Liu Shunwu had died with the enemy, and the bodies of more than 20 enemies were lying in front of them.
In this battle, only Zhao Xianyou and the 6 companies of fighters led by him fought bravely and well, held out for 57 hours, repelled 17 enemy attacks, took the initiative to counterattack twice, ambushed the enemy once, held the position, and annihilated 562 enemy soldiers. The headquarters of the Volunteer Army posthumously recorded Zhao Xianyou's special merits, the 6th Company of the 582nd Regiment, and awarded the banner of "Heroic and Tenacious Steel Company That Guards Like Mount Taishan". The 19th Corps posthumously recorded first-class merit for Liu Shunwu of the 6th Company, and the first-class merit for the soldiers Guan Jingchun and Liu Dianliangrong.
Take the hero's gun
When Zhao Xianyou joined the army, his wife Chen Lianhua was pregnant. In early December 1950, his wife took her son to visit Zhao Xianyou in Ningxia, when the troops had already gone to the northeast, Zhao Xianyou did not know that in March 1948 his wife had given birth to a son for him, and he did not know whether his wife had a son or a daughter when he died.
Heroes have their own descendants. Zhao Xianyou's sons and grandsons successively stepped into the troops where their ancestors had fought and became the descendants of heroes. Three generations of grandchildren have made meritorious achievements in a heroic company, leaving a good story of history.
Zhao Xianyou's son, Zhao Xuwen, was assigned to work in the tax bureau after graduating from Laoting County No. 1 Middle School. In October 1970, Zhao Xuwen insisted on enlistment, and he got his wish to go to the 6th Company of Special Merit, where his father had fought before his death, and became an ordinary soldier in the company where his father was. He trained very hard and became a member of the division's military triathlon team, especially good at shooting. In 1978, he was transferred to the Shijiazhuang Army Academy as a shooting instructor. In 1982, in order to take care of his elderly and sickly mother, Zhao Xuwen was transferred to the Armed Forces Department of Laoting County and later served as vice minister. Because the county armed forces department was transferred to the local area and then returned to the army, Zhao Xuwen went to work in the local area in 1996.
Zhao Xinmin, the grandson of Zhao Xian, grew up under the influence of his grandmother and father. On the Qingming Festival in 1982, 7-year-old Zhao Xinmin accompanied his grandmother to the Martyrs' Cemetery of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea in Shenyang for the first time. In front of Grandpa's tombstone, he took Grandma's hand and said, "Grandma, Grandma, grow up I will be a hero." In 1994, Zhao Xinmin joined the army to the 6th Company of Special Gong. In March 1996, Zhao Xinmin, who had received consecutive years of meritorious service awards, was escorted to the military academy. After graduating from military school, he resolutely returned to the 6th Company of Special Merit as a platoon leader. Like his grandfather, Zhao Xinmin served as the deputy instructor of the 6th Company of Special Gong, and like his father, served as the deputy company commander of the 6th Company of Special Gong.
