It has been 14 years since the first smartphone was officially released. At present, the number of smartphones held in China is the first in the world. In 2017, the number of smartphone users in China exceeded 700 million, and by 2020, this number has risen to 874 million.

On the supply side, according to IDC data, in 2020, global smartphone shipments reached 1.2922 billion units, and China's mobile phone shipments in 2020 were 308 million units.

On December 14-15, OPPO held the 3rd Future Science and Technology Conference with the theme of "To Goodness and Moving Forward". At this conference, OPPO released the first self-developed chip, smart glasses, folding screen three blockbuster products, but also gave their "three tricks" to break the game.

Solve core problems with core technologies

If you want to break through the "volume" of the industry, you must start from mastering the core technology. And for smartphone products, the chip is its brain. But there are only a few players who have the ability to make self-developed chips, and most of them use the general version.

In this case, the "volume" is a necessity. Therefore, OPPO chose to explore the bottom mariana and develop its own chip.

Mariana MariSilicon X is OPPO's first image-specific NPU, using DSA's new gold architecture concept and 6nm process. It includes two core IPs, the MariNeuro AI computing unit, and the MariLumi image processing unit, which provide powerful computing power and energy efficiency ratios while achieving a comprehensive evolution of video processing.

As the industry's first 6nm image dedicated NPU, OPPO simply cannot "magically change" by purchasing IP. On the basis of full self-research, OPPO directly chooses to challenge the advanced 6nm process. Mastering the 6nm process will also master the entry volume of advanced processes, but the risk and cost will be higher.

In addition, the cost of a chip test tape-out is as high as hundreds of millions of yuan, and the results before the tape-out experiment are unknown, and once it fails, it must be torn down and restarted. Such an investment requires courage and boldness.

But OPPO founder Chen Mingyong said: Mariana X, just a small step for us, our footsteps will not stop. We will continue to invest resources and use a team of thousands of people to engage in self-developed chips in a down-to-earth manner. Differentiate products with innovation

Polishing the ultimate product has always been a gene rooted in OPPO. Whether it's the spinning lens of the N1, the dual-track periscope lift module of The Find X, or the OPPO X 2021 reel screen... These challenging but disruptive mechanical designs are the result of OPPO's seiko.

At this conference, in addition to releasing the first self-developed chip, OPPO also released the new Air Glass smart glasses and Find N folding screen mobile phone.

Different from the traditional two-piece smart glasses, OPPO Air Glass adopts a monocular split design; and the overall weight of the glasses is less than 30 grams, and the lens thickness is only 1.3 mm, so the user wears it as comfortably as sunglasses.

OPPO Air Glass provides four interactive modes, including touch, voice, gesture and head wipe, which can easily use gestures and head movements to complete interaction. In terms of functions, the glasses include intelligent translation, teleprompter, map navigation and other functions.

Find N is oppo's first folding screen mobile phone, its innovative hinge design to achieve a completely foldless screen; and after testing, the Find N folding screen machine can withstand 200,000 folding times still no problem. In addition, the Find N hinge design supports "hovering", adding more usage scenarios.
