The next title defense of current Bellator middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi, the challenger, is America's undefeated striker Austin Vanderford, which will take place next February 25 in Dublin, Ireland.

Gigad Musashi (48-7-2, 27 K, 12 S) is 36 years old and has a height of 188cm with an arm span of 193cm. He began his professional MMA career in 2003, winning the DREAM MiddleWeight Championship in 2008 and the Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Championship in 2009. In 2013, he joined the UFC with a score of (33-3-2) and a status of 5 wins and 1 draw. He had won 2 and lost 2 of his first four games at the UFC, losing points to Lyoto Machida and being defeated by "Crocodile" Ronaldo Souza in the third set. With 2 wins and 1 loss in 2015, he has played a five-game winning streak since 2016 after losing the second TKO by Uriah Hall, including Vitor Belfort in the second set in October 2016, TKO Ullia Hall in November to take revenge, and TKO Chris Weidman in the second set in April 2017. Left the octagonal cage after a (9-3) result at the UFC. Joined the Bellator tournament with a score of (42–6–2) and played a three-game winning streak at the Bellator, including the gold belt of the Bellator middleweights in the first set in May 2018, with TKO Rory MacDonald winning the second set in September. Lost the title to Rafael Lovato Jr. in the second defending match in June 2019, won the second battle with Machida Ryuta in September, won the bellator middleweight title title points that were vacant with Douglas Lima last October, and just won the third game of the defending battle in August this year, TKO John Salter.

Austin van der Ford (11-0, 3 K, 3 S) is 31 years old and has a height of 180cm with an arm span of 188cm. He began to compete in amateur MMA competitions in 2015 and achieved an amateur record of (4-0) by 2016. He began his professional MMA career in 2017, won the CS tournament championship at the end of the year, and won the second round of the 2018 White Dana Draft, but did not sign a UFC event. Joining bellator in 2019 with a (6-0) score, he has won five consecutive games at Bellator and is unbeaten, just after a point-out victory over Fabian Edwards in May this year.
