【Concert Hall Zero】Can't imagine it? Oh yes you can still play like this!

Oh Na, one of the most representative ethnic wind instruments in China, the pronunciation is high-pitched and loud, and is known as the "King of Musical Instruments" because of its unique temperament and timbre. From a professional point of view, the sound frequency of the piano is twice that of the piano, and the sound is four times that of the piano.

Jazz, a music that originated in the United States in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with musical roots in Blues and Ragtime, is an improvisational, based on a swinging Shuffle rhythm, a combination of black African culture and White European culture.

Blowing the na out of the jazz wind, completely subverting the audience's imagination of the na, the young nao player Zhang Wenbiao said that he should be the second person in China to "play like this", the first is the famous wind musician Guo Yazhi.

This time, Zhang Wenbiao and his mentor Professor Li Jianzhong composed "Impressions of Han Jiang", which was rated as the original folk music excellent work of the "Guangdong Music New Classic Project" in 2021. "Impression of Han Jiang" interprets the rhythm of Guangdong with Chaozhou Sighing, depicts the tolerant and hospitable character of Cantonese people with delicate and tender slow plates, and creatively adds the "double spit" technique to Chaozhou Shengna performance, trying to depict a prosperous development scene of southern Guangdong daring to be the first and thriving.

Zero Concert Hall interviewed Zhang Wenbiao

Zhang Wenbiao said in an interview with the No. 0 Concert Hall that the works played by Chaozhou Gong Na are not very many in modern times, and it is rare to see new works born in so many years; compared with the works he wrote earlier, such as "Oh Na Feelings" with a little northern traditional flavor, it also has the feeling of the tape in the 1980s and 1990s, but adds some new things to describe the humanistic environment life in Guangdong, and these differences will be reflected in the music.

If you open your mind to music and imagine it, you will find that there are many interesting points. Guangdong Chinese Orchestra rehearsal to Guangdong music mostly, when some Chao opera masters to sing, as a musician, Zhang Wenbiao's biggest nature is to listen, he will think about why Chao opera sings like this, why the portamento should be handled in this way, he will always think about how to reflect in the chant, and then try to compose, and then by the teacher (Professor Li Jianzhong) continue to polish, and finally do a good job.

Zhang Wenbiao said that he has been playing with Professor Li Jianzhong, who is also a saxophonist and saxophonist, who taught him to open his mind, music has a lot of imagination space, and he also opened his mind and tried to combine na and jazz. If he remembers correctly, the first person in China to play "Sir Oh Na" was the famous wind musician Guo Yazhi, and the second was him. Performing with the Guangdong Dimension Jazz Orchestra, Zhang Wenbiao played a traditional Blues tune for the first time with a whistle, and this new way of playing received continuous applause as soon as it took the stage, bringing a novel aural and visual feast to the audience. Jazz pays attention to live improvisation, with bass bass support, trumpets and trombones to spread out the space, oh na and them collide together, and the collision of drum kits, just like the traditional Chinese chant and percussion together to knock out sparks, the effect is actually quite good.

When it comes to the development of Guangdong music in the new era, Zhang Wenbiao believes that first of all, the roots of Guangdong music cannot be lost, and music must remain rooted and develop on this basis; secondly, the new era should have new elements, and he personally believes that it is possible to start from each instrumental music to explore and contact more music from other places. A great advantage of the player's creation is to know what music is most comfortable for him, to know what kind of music he is suitable for playing, and to write some positions that are smooth or sensitive to his pronunciation. When he and Professor Li Jianzhong created "Impressions of Han Jiang", they actually found the smoothest position for their hands, and did not have to spend too much effort to practice it, the most important thing was that the final work came out of this taste.

Zhang Wenbiao said that the "Guangdong Music New Classic Project" original folk music excellent works collection activities are very good, stimulating the enthusiasm of young people, digging up some new talents, each era is not short of heroes, only a platform is missing, with such a platform, there will be more works presented in the future; he and Professor Li Jianzhong found this platform and then wrote works to participate in the election, hoping to write a song that is both traditional and with a little atmosphere of the times, which is also a kind of development, and then it will develop in the direction of the new tide and more era; "Impression of Han Jiang" does not dare to say whether it can become a new classic, but at least it is a step forward, in this era, as long as we continue to work hard, there will be better works.
