Baitan Ancient Village, Dongyang, Zhejiang: Rich in ancient style and quiet beauty

A nearly 600-year-old Wu family living in Dacun, the ancient style is rich and quiet. Batan Village was called Merry in ancient times, also known as pine tree dwarf. Later, some counties ordered Bai Fu to say that the name of the village was indecent, so he took the meaning of the flat beach on the bank of the Baixi River at the village and changed its name to Bai Tan. Lion Mountain dominates the south of the village, and Lianxi Flows around the village from north to southwest, across the creek from Wuliang Village.

The creek is dense with bamboo. According to the "Genealogy of the Wu Clan", it originated from the two sons of King Xibo and Prince Ji of the late Yin Shang Dynasty. There are eighty-fourth ancestors, Zi Dezhang, southern Song Dynasty Shaoding four years to visit Zhu Zi's "University Chapters and Sentences" manuscript from Zhuji to Dongyang, where future generations of descendants live and spread.

Bai Tansu is famous for its dongyang historical and cultural village. The eunuchs of the Imperial Household are endless. In the Qing Dynasty, Wu Guanghao served as a secretary in the cabinet and the history of Taiwan's assassination in the 12th year; Wu Pinheng served as the chief of the Punishment Department, the prime minister of state affairs, The Minister of State Affairs, The Foreign Affairs Department, the Chief Of The Jiangxi Department, the Anhui Bureau, the Anhui Provincial Administration Department, and the Zhejiang Provincial Government Affairs Department. There are 25 Gongsheng and more than 30 Zhongxiu talents.

During the Republic of China period, there were 4 arches in the village and 8 pairs of flagpoles with meritorious names. National hero Lin Zexu gave 1 plaque to the main hall.

Baitan Village still retains many ancient buildings, and there are more than 40 ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties and the early Republic of China, which is one of the "rich mining areas" of Dongyang ancient residences. There are Taihe Hall, Yihe Hall, Yonghe Hall, Jiexi Hall, Chengyi Hall, Fuyu Hall, Jingxiu Hall, Shenyu Hall, Qinshen Hall, Yiyi Hall, Chengle Hall, Shaocheng Hall, Yilan Hall, Cheng'en Hall, Chengde Hall, Rende Hall, Huidi Hall, Taiyuan Hall, Jiqing Hall, Yongxi Hall, Yongxin Hall, Zhongde Hall, Baishan Hall, Chengben Hall, Shude Hall and so on.

Most of these ancient houses face east, with "thirteen heads" as the basic unit, the layout is flexible and changeable, showing a rectangular plan of vertical and horizontal expansion, the interior decoration of the building is exquisite, there are wood carving, brick carving, stone carving, tile carving, murals, painting, gray sculpture, bamboo weaving and other folk crafts, especially the integration of Dongyang wood carving, brick carving, stone carving as one of the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China's carving art architecture is the most representative, and the wood components carved by various techniques are the most wonderful.

Among them, Wubentang and Fuyutang are the two largest, most representative and typical, and have been protected by cultural relics in Zhejiang Province.
