A world of nothingness

Text/Sodegran

I am fascinated by the world of nothingness,

Because everything in the world I am tired of begging.

The moon is written in silver with ancient inscriptions

Describe the world of nothingness for me.

In the void world, all our desires will be magically fulfilled,

In the void world, the chains on our bodies will be loosened,

In the world of nothingness, we use the dewdrops of the moon

Cool our burned foreheads from the wounds.

Oh, my life is a fiery phantom,

One was discovered by me, one was acquired by me—

The road to the world of nothingness.

In the void,

My lover strolled with a brilliant crown of flowers.

Oh, who is my lover? The night is dark,

The star replied with a shudder.

Who is my lover? What's his name?

The sky rises high and high.

A human child sinks into the boundless fog,

No answers.

But the children of mankind are merely faith,

He held his hand out into the sky.

And so there's an answer: I'm your loved one,

Someone you will always love.

Translated by Li Kasa

Edith Irene Södergran (4 April 1892 – 24 June 1923) was a famous Swedish poetess in Finland. She was one of the earliest modernist writers in the history of Nordic literature. She was heavily influenced by French Symbolism, German Expressionism, and Russian Futurism, as evidenced by her poetry. She published only four books of poetry in her lifetime and died of tuberculosis and malnutrition at the age of 31. She was not recognized by readers and the literary community during her lifetime, but later people discovered the literary value of her works. Today, Idit Sodgran is considered one of the greatest writers in the history of Nordic literature. To this day, she has influenced many poets, especially Swedish lyricists.
