Self-driving taxis are piloted on the road in Beijing

The country's first pilot project for the commercialization of autonomous mobility services was launched in Beijing. Baidu and Xiaoma Zhixing became the first batch of enterprises to be allowed to carry out commercialization pilots, investing no more than 100 autonomous vehicles to carry out commercial pilot services in the 60 square kilometers of Beijing Economic Development Zone.

Media reporters experienced that through Baidu's "Radish Run" App, an autonomous vehicle was called, and a safety officer sat in the driver's position of the driver of the autonomous vehicle, but he did not actively intervene in any operation.

It is reported that each vehicle needs to be equipped with a safety officer. These security officers are certified after professional training and examinations. Unlike traditional drivers, safety officers only "take over" vehicles in the event of an emergency.
