In 2019, several ancient tombs were excavated at the site of the South Campus of CUHK

In 1961, the archaeology teaching and research team of CUHK excavated two Han Dynasty tombs in the school;

In 1981, CUHK discovered an Eastern Han Tomb at the construction site of the Electric Education Building. At that time, the faculty of the Department of Anthropology led all the students of the class of 1977 and 1979 to excavate and clean up the tombs of the Eastern Han Dynasty at the construction site of the electric education building.

In 2014, the South Campus of CUHK was announced as the "First Batch of Underground Cultural Relics Burial Areas in Guangzhou" as part of the "Kangle Village - Xingang West Road Underground Cultural Relics Burial Area".

According to experts, the south campus of CUHK has a high terrain, which is suitable for the production and life of the ancients and is buried after death. Judging from the current archaeological discoveries and geographical research results, Haizhu District of Guangzhou City in the Han Dynasty is not a large island now, but a small island formed by the highlands of Baogang, Xiaogang, Chigang and Magangding.

In Guangzhou, in addition to CUHK, Guangzhou University, Jinan University, and South China Normal University have also excavated tombs.
