Recently, the person in charge of the State Internet Information Office interviewed the main responsible person and editor-in-chief of Sina Weibo, and in view of the recent repeated occurrence of information prohibited by laws and regulations from publishing or transmitting sina Weibo and its accounts, and the circumstances were serious, in accordance with the "Cybersecurity Law of the People's Republic of China", the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Minors" and other laws and regulations, ordered it to immediately rectify and seriously deal with the relevant responsible persons. The Beijing Municipal Internet Information Office imposed an administrative penalty of a total fine of 3 million yuan on Beijing Weimeng Chuangke Network Technology Co., Ltd., the operator of Sina Weibo. From January to November 2021, the State Internet Information Office guided the Beijing Municipal Internet Information Office to impose 44 disposal penalties on Sina Weibo, and repeatedly imposed a fine of 500,000 yuan, with a total of 14.3 million yuan in fines.
The responsible person of the State Internet Information Office emphasized that website platforms shall earnestly perform their main responsibilities, complete information security management systems such as information release review, public information inspections, and emergency response, strengthen management of information released by their users, and must not provide a dissemination platform for information that violates laws and regulations. The State Internet Information Office will adhere to the management of the network according to law, further strengthen supervision and management and law enforcement, consolidate the main responsibility of the website platform to run the network according to law, protect the legitimate rights and interests of the people, and maintain the clear sky of cyberspace.
