In the long river of Chinese history, the emperor is so high, but the emperor is not all so wise and virtuous, and there are many emperors who have a lot of bad reviews in governing the country, but in other aspects they have shown outstanding talent. For example, the Ming Emperor Ming Xizong, who often did not go to the court to take care of the government, and even did not know anything about governing the country, but Ming Xizong was very good at carpentry, and during his reign he solved the problem of the bulky wooden bed for the court. He could even single-handedly carve out the carpenter of the fence and was known as the reincarnation of Luban. There were also such emperors in the last years of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms.

This emperor was Li Yu of the Southern Tang Dynasty, who was also very bad at governing the country, and he would only use wine to dispel his sorrows when his road to governing the country was not smooth. However, Li Yu's poetry is very famous in Chinese poetry, his poems are so to the point, but he eventually became the king of the country, which is a naked irony for him. Li Yu ranked sixth among his brothers, he loved poetry since he was a child, and he was even more proficient in poetry, but because Li Yu was talented, he was jealous of his eldest brother Li Hongji. Li Yu had no choice but to restrain his sharp edge, and Li Yu became more addicted to the ocean of documents from then on.
Later, Li Hongji died of illness, and the position of crown prince was vacant, and Li Yu was the best candidate in the eyes of the old emperor. However, the imperial court officials believed that Li Yu was cowardly and incompetent, but these twists and turns could not change the old emperor's heart, and finally Li Yu successfully ascended to the position of crown prince and began the emperor's follow-up learning journey. When Li Yu ascended the throne, the Southern Tang had already attached itself to the Song Dynasty, because the Southern Tang had been obedient before, so Zhao Kuangyin did not send troops to fight them, and the Song Dynasty at that time also had to deal with other feudal towns, and it was even more ignored for the small western country of the Southern Tang.
When Li Yu ascended the throne, he also paid tribute to the Song Dynasty, and Zhao Kuangyin also acknowledged the fact that Li Yu was the emperor of the Southern Tang Dynasty, and also congratulated Li Yu on his ascension to the throne. Li Yu sent envoys to the Southern Han Dynasty, originally wanting to unite with the Southern Han to submit to the Song Dynasty, but the Southern Han did not obey the Song Dynasty, which eventually led Zhao Kuangyin to send troops to attack the Southern Han. Li Yu was not lightly frightened by the Song Dynasty's troops to attack the Southern Han, and later the Southern Han was destroyed by the Song Dynasty, Li Yu was anxious about this, and the merchants from the Southern Tang to the Song Dynasty came back to report that the Song Dynasty was forging warships in large quantities, and might burn the war to the Southern Tang. After Li Yu learned of this news, he did not think of making progress every day, only knew how to drink and have fun, and his attitude was very negative.
Zhao Kuangyin invited Li Yu to go on the pretext of sacrificing heaven, but Li Yu could not go away because of his illness, and eventually Zhao Kuangyin sent Cao Bin and other generals to attack southern Tang. Li Yu also ordered the reinforcement of the city wall to prepare for resistance, but the strength was too great, and the southern Tang army was immediately destroyed by the Song Dynasty, and the army was defeated like a mountain. There were also many generals in the Southern Tang Dynasty who led the soldiers to a dying struggle, and Li Yu watched the Southern Tang soldiers fall one by one, and he finally chose to surrender to the Song Dynasty.
The Song army has since occupied the Southern Tang, and Li Yu has been escorted from the Southern Tang to the capital of the Song Dynasty as a prisoner. Although Li Yu was a prisoner of war, he surrendered voluntarily, so Zhao Kuangyin not only could not kill him, but also had to seal him, and eventually Li Yu was crowned the Duke of Longxi. In fact, Zhao Kuangyin used this title to put Li Yu under house arrest, and although Li Yu had an official name, he had a real position. Legend has it that Li Yu eventually angered Song Taizu for his book "Yu Meiren", and was eventually given poisoned wine and died.
