Jiaxing Canal Poetry 丨 (Qing) Gu Han "Xi Jiang Yue Yu Boxing Zhong"

There was a sound of the city blowing, but no dust flew in. A stream twists and turns, and it is all flowers and living water.

Sha Nuan first smelled the puppy, and the day was long and was urged by cicadas. The pavilion is still willowy, adding a bit of moth green.

The poem describes what you see and feel when you pass through Jiaxing through the canal. "Yu Fist" is the ancient name of Jiaxing, "a stream twists and turns to hold the city", which concisely summarizes the characteristics of the canal that winds around the city. Although the noise of the city can be heard in the wind in the canal boats, there is not a trace of dust of the city's cars and horses, and the flowers blooming on both sides of the canal, and the boats move forward in the turquoise waters. It was the early summer season, the sun was long and the people were sleepy, and the dogs were barking and cicadas were chirping. The ancient caravanserai pavilion is still low-hanging, similar to the scene described in the poetry of the ancients, but when you see it with your own eyes, you feel more feminine and emerald green. The use of the word "still" here shows that the poet is very familiar with this scene, because even if he crossed Jiaxing from the canal for the first time, he had already experienced such a flavor from a large number of poems from his predecessors.
