But this time they may be disappointed again, because a bronze vessel that clearly records the deeds of Dayu has appeared!
In 2002, a Chinese expert accidentally found a rusty broken bronze in an overseas antique market, only 12 centimeters high, 25 centimeters in diameter, weighing only 2.5 kilograms, the bronze top cover has been lost, the animal's head and ears are placed on both sides, but the earrings have also been lost. Compared with the rest of the well-cast bronze heavy objects, this petite "basin" looks unremarkable, but when the experts plucked the bottom of the bronze basin a few times, they were pleasantly surprised to find the inscription!
The expert quietly bought this bronze back in a low profile, and after research, he confirmed that he "picked up the leak"! The bronze has a total of 10 lines and 98 words of inscriptions, which record the glorious deeds of Dayu, the founder of the Xia Dynasty:

Born to my king as a vassal, the noble and virtuous, the people are good and virtuous, and the widow is in the world. Use Shao Hao, Yi Gan Yi De, Kang death is not Mao. Filial piety, calling for the Scriptures, good and nothing. The heart is good, and the marriage is only cooperative. Heaven uses Kao, God reuses Qilu, and Yongyu Yu Ning. The inscription generally says that Dayu was used to control water, and had adopted measures such as cutting down hills and blocking floods and dredging rivers, and after calming the flood, Dayu divided the world into nine prefectures and relocated those who fled to their respective prefectures to settle down. The people, impressed by Dayu's contribution, called them "parents". The inscription is followed by an exposition of Dayu's rule of virtue and teaching the people to act with virtue.
Whether Dayu is just a mythological figure, and whether the Xia Dynasty only exists in legends, has a long history. The bronze plate, known as the "Sui Gong Yu (xǔ)", is rumored to have been used by Shun's descendants to establish the Sui state of the state, which was destroyed by the State of Qi in 681 BC. Although it is more than 1,000 years away from the Xia Dynasty, its significance is not in this: Sui Gongyu has advanced the documentary record of Dayu Zhishui by six or seven hundred years!
Bronze inscriptions are mostly used to record important historical events, and it is not easy to cast a fine bronze during the Western Zhou Dynasty, so Sui Gongyu is not a "prank" of the Western Zhou people. This shows that as early as 2900 years ago, the great achievements of Dayu in controlling water were praised by people, and the concept of the Xia Dynasty as the "head of the three generations" has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the people.
From the records of pre-Qin classics such as "Poems" and "Books", it can also be proved that Sui Gongdi's words are not false. The Shang Shu records a chapter on Yu Gong: "Yu Shi Soil, with the mountains and wood, lay the foundation of the mountains and rivers." The Poem of Long Hair says: "The flood is mangy, and Yu lays down the earth." This is the same as the inscription on the cup, "Heavenly Destiny Yu Shi Soil, Follow the Mountains and Rivers, and Set Up The Expedition on the Ground."
Previously, the "Poems", "Books" and even the Qin Gonggui that recorded the deeds of Dayu belonged to the Spring and Autumn Period, and the appearance of sui Gongyu suddenly raised this record to the Western Zhou Dynasty, closer to the Xia Dynasty period. Sui Gong Yu also became the earliest cultural relics that confirmed the legend of Dayu Zhishui. This news quickly exploded in the archaeological and cultural circles, and experts cheered and rejoiced, but foreign scholars who did not have a deep understanding of Chinese culture still held an opposing attitude, because they could not find clues from ancient texts like Chinese language scholars, and they could only accept the existence of the Xia Dynasty in the most direct way, that is, to find a cultural relics of the Xia Dynasty.
